http://ru.youtube.com/watch?v=wOTcQGqxALA Someone have put it on Youtube with English subtitles. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091341/ It may be hard to watch with subtitles, and sometimes I think the translation is quite clumsy, but it's worth watching anyway. Back in 1986 I watched it 4 or 5 times in the theater. That time we thought it's a satire on Soviet system, now we see it's much more about modern times and "capitalism" that is coming to an end now.
Movie parts are named in a funny way, search for "Kin-dza-dza (with English subtitles). Part 1" first, then - Part 2 etc. Skripach = Fiddler.
In a first scene, when wife sends uncle Vova (Vladimir Nikolayevich) to get some bread and macaroni (pasta) and Fiddler (Gedevan Alexandrovich) asks him to help a man from another planet, uncle Vova is so sarcastic because the Traveler wears a coat from a "big iron bin", a trash-can, smelling unpleasantly. There were no bums in USSR, so uncle Vova thinks that the guy is obviously insane, and asks Fiddler to call "03", ambulance. A person wearing a stinking coat from a trash-can standing barefoot in the cold = insane, loonie. At least it's how it was in 1986. Maybe we'll have to answer some questions while you guys watch it. At least if you'll spend some time on it
One of the best Sci-Fi films ever and THE best Russian Sci-fi flick is "Solaris" early 70s. "Солярис" absolutely a riveting film- I saw it three time in theaters and would see it again anytime. In Russian with subtitles only of course....

I thought 'Solaris' was made in poland(edited :in russia yes , Andrei Tarkovsky)...The book Solaris is amazing, and so is the film.. the 70'es version.. yanks made a version of it too and it, sucked bad lol. @Boroda You seen finnish sci-fi 'Star Wreck' ? It's available freely on net.. PS.Since nazi's flee to dark side of the moon in 1945, they are coming back 2018... 'The Iron Sky'
Solaris is a Russian film based on a Polish book (Stanisław Lem). Yes, there was a remake. Yes, it sucked BIG TIME! See the original. Avoid the remake
Hehe ,you're right, in yank version George Clooney tries to get as deep as an american can lol. Stanislaw Lem is one of my favorite 'sci-fi' authors..
No, it wasn't me Subtitles are far from perfect, a-la "Which watch? - Half of sixth - Such much?!". I watched first 3 parts, translators just failed to show the expressive style of uncle Vova and Fiddler. You need to be really bilingual to translate it, I think I could make it a little better, at least without obvious mistakes and omissions, but it's like translating Vysotsky's songs
Ahoi, Moskva Let's hear some Vysotsky!!! Vypil ia Thank you for sharing this movie -- I did not know it. http://ru.youtube.com/watch?v=KLtRKy_SNPw How are things in the capital today?
That guy from the another planet looks like Adolf H. He just needs to get that beard cut and his moustache trimmed.
Stanisław Lem was one of my "must-read"s when I was young Not sure if all his books were translated to Russian, but anything that was available I tried to read.
Yes, this is a famous film! I remember they were showing it on TV in Bulgaria when I was small - at that age it just looked very scary and depressing those two people alone on the desert planet! More recently I d/led it from internet and - it rocks! maybe the subtitles here are better? surprisingly?
Thank u for this post .. This is one of the best movies ive seen in a while.. I watched it all the way through on youtube and im downloading now for dvd .. so i can watch it again in comfort. It reminded me alot of a David Lynch movie I love the humor, the music, and the plot in general ... I still must watch it again to get the whole picture though. thx again because I probably wouldnt have found out about this film on my own.
help me out here... So something actually happens in da movie? (checked it out, looked a bit like "the peculiarities in da russian way of hunting" or something like that, kinda nice, but a bit slow for my taste).
