This is one of those posts one types when he is soooooooooo bored coz the better pc is being used, so he is fed up with his old terrible small ass pc... luckily I still got all my MP3's accessible...

So, what am I going to philosophise about? No idea so far, so i'll just blabber this small piece of page into completion...

Hmmm, actually I do have aquestion namely:

does anyone know a good book? coz I've read almost all clancy's am getting through the local supply of Larry Bond / Stephen Coonts / Eric L Harry / WEB Griffin /Forsyth / Hartov / McNabb / have read Catch 22 and am almost through wwith Childrens crusade which got delayed by several other books I've read while trying to motivate myself to read it, (doesn't mean the book is bad, far from)

    So...? any suggestions...?

    greetz, Zembla

    Hi Zembla,

    >So...? any suggestions...?

If you're into Fantasy, try George RR Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" trilogy ("A Game of Thrones", "A Clash of Kings", "A Storm of Swords"). They're available from Amazon.

I recently found the first Belgian Euro in my pocket, by the way. Some boring aristocrat on the backface ... I'd have preferred a "Tintin" coin ;-)

    Regards,

    Henning (HoHun)

    some sugestions:
    -"1984"
-"Animals' Revolution" (something like that), both from George Orwell.
-"The Lord Of The Rings", from JRR Tolkien, amazing book.
-"100 years of loneliness" (or similar name), from Gabriel Garcia Marques, won a Nobel for this book. Incredible

    Try "Bomber" by Len Deighton.

Good fictional piece dramatizing an allied and axis bomber crew simultaniously.

I'd suggest some good SF :)
Here is a short list of my favourite authors:
    - Larry Niven - hard SF, sometimes even too hard ;) but he has some great books too.
    - William Gibson - guy who created cyberpunk, enough said.
    - Jeff Noon - my last invention, dark, psychedelic and totally weird cyberpunk stuff. This guy is either sick or addicted to very heavy drugs ;) Suggestion: try to find and read it in english, I don't think if any translation can show this guy's writing style.
    - Mike Resnick - mostly cool space operas, try "Santiago" - 500 pages brick but pure fun to read :)
    - Philip K. Dick - but only 2 or 3 books. "Ubik" is a definite must read.
    - Ursula K. LeGuin - the Earthsea series (4 books i think). Its one of the best fantasy series ever.
    - Douglas Adams - "Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy". Hint: don't drink anything while reading it or you will have it sprayed all over you. Pretty funny ;)

+There many more good books to choose from. I'm lucky to have a good library 50 meters from my house with fresh supply of SF and fantasy every week or two. :)

Dammit forgot about "Dune" by Frank Herbert. This is one of the most classic SF books ever. Great lecture.
As for the ww2 aviation books among my favourites there are: "Samurai!" by Saburo Sakai, "Gabby, a fighter pilot's life" by Francis Gabreski and "Typhoon" by Desmond Scott + many books I don't remember at the moment ;)

It's "Animal Farm" and "100 years of solitude" I've only read AF and LOTR.. both are very good.

    My two cents:

Richard Bach: Jonathan Livingston Seagull (one of my personal favs, a MUST read)
Erich Maria Remarque: All quiet on the western front
    Elie Weisel(sp?): Night
The old man and the sea is a good book too
Antoine de St. Exupery: Wind, Sand, and Stars

You can also try James Bond... great books, and usually easy to read. Sherlock Holmes, also (like Study in Scarlet, for example)

Hope you got enough books for a while

Where I can find this book:

Pierre Clostermann's "The Big Show : Some Experiences of a French Fighter Pilot in the R.A.F."

I tried Amazon, but seems out of print... I don't want to believe it. Great book.. already read it, but I want a copy. :)

    Fine books here indeed.
Even de St. Exupery is mentioned.

However, I'd suggest Le Petit Prince by him,
in the language of your own choice.
Reading it would do good to most people on Earth :)

    Childrends' book? Really?

Yes, i agree. It's damn terrifying for me atleast. I bet the writer was on serious medication when doing that. White rabbit....card men on chessboard floor.....uhhh. Bad trip.

All Hamingway - but start with "To have or have not" - it's a damn good action novell.

Robert Anson Heinlein - "Stranger in a strange land", "Time enough for love", "Glory road", "Moon is a harsh mistress" and many more.

Philip Kindred Dick - "Ubik" was already mentioned, then - "The man in a high castle", "Do androids dream of electric sheeps" and many more. Be carefull, if you get too deep into PKD worlds - it can be dangerous for your brain ;) My fav is "A Maze of Death".

Probably the greatest Sci-Fi author in history - pan Stanislaw Lem. Everything is absolutely great. Start with "Star diaries", but be carefull not to laugh your ass off. "Fiasco" - the best "hardcore" sci-fi novell, unfortunately - his last big fiction work so far. Just read anything by Lem - he's great.

Richard Bach - "Stranger to the ground" and "Biplane".

Viktor Pelevin - anything you can find. He's probably the best modern Russian author. Here is a link to his last novell translated to English: http://lib.ru/PELEWIN/pokolenie_engl.txt and one of his best stories: http://lib.ru/PELEWIN/hermit.txt

Disclaimer one: These are SERIOUS books.

Disclaimer two: I don't use drugs in any form, only alcohol.

    ;)

    Don't worry I don't :)

I wish more brasilian authors were translated to other languages. We have really good ones, like Rubem Fonseca, Sergio Buarque...

Back in Soviet times we had a nice "thick" monthly magazine called "Foreign literature", and they published many translations from Latin-American authors. I have heard it's now being issued again, but I never saw it in stores. :(
