    hi! is it only me that loses keyboard after alt+tab from WB? more specifically, my keyboard stops working correctly in WB after i accidentally hit that damn windows key.. grrrr... (alt+tab as well)

    i tried searching the forum, and also thought i had seen something on the FAQs, but didnt make any findings... it actually feels funny having to look into the faq you compiled yourself, btw haha! ;P
    the bug happens in both 3D and (the much better) 2D

    i had to alt+F4 in the middle of my 1st sortie after all these years because i hit that damn key.. i tried going back to base, but the field turned gold after the reset (oops, AFVS flying red??).. i tried going to the next field but i must have missed the direction, and i couldnt hit F1.. damn problem!
    sorry @ gold that was chasing me faaar away.. but i was running out of fuel too.. i could have ditched or done a suicidal 1 on 1, but i was kinda pissed that my comeback was hampered in such a sucky way and lost my patience :\

    weeeeeeee thks in advance :)

    Nope, it's not just you. This is a result of horrible coding on the part of the original WB programmers. ;)

    There is a "Winkey Killer" app floating around on the net somewhere which at least disables the Windows key, but alt-tabbing the program into the background and then restoring it will still not work without problems IIRC.

    that shocks me.. either i never noticed this nuisance, or.... the last time i played WB was on win98! zomg! :eek:

    hahah! thx, tho! im still surprised as i didnt find anything on the topic.. that made me come to two contradicting conclusions: a) it happens to everybody, so nobody posts about it anymore b) if that were true, on such a common problem, you would see lots of newbs posting about it!

    thx reddie ;D

    godammit! im not supposed to play this game!
    first, i hit the windows key accidentally and i lose my keyboard inflight with no path home and con on tail..
    then, im gaining alt in the middle of 3 friendly bases and WHAM! goddamn ack weenie 88mm hits my center fuselage because some weirdo town or something belongs to some far distant gold field...
    theeeeen.... im choosing another place to takeoff, hit alt+v to take a look around.. ok, external cam.. then move around and.. desktop! yeah! desktop! couldnt be more direct, mr. let-me-play-alone-stupid-warbirds-sir!!
    :\

    Good to see you nic, where have you been? I may pop on again one of these nights. I remember you were one hell of a ki-43 pilot. :) <S>

    On the windows key it happened alot to me too. most of my keyboard wouldn't work as well and programmed joystick commands as well :( but for some reason on certain occations if I hit the windows key again it restores every thing. Strange but true. It didn't always fix it but some times it did. I find that very odd indeed. Anyhow welcome back. <S>

    "winkey killer" will solve the problem, if hands are not controllable.

    What? You mean once you log into Warbirds you only alt-tab accidentally? You stand sitting in cockpit climbing to cruise alt, etc? I don't have the patience :D

    If your problem is the same as mine, I hope the next workaround can help you too:
    What I do to prevent the loss of controls is launch warbirds with user "Administrator" while in a limited user account.

    E. g. You are logged into windows with a limited user account (you should usually be). Right click on "go online" or whatever shortcut in your desktop for WBFH while holding down shift. Click "run as". Enter admin password and go. More convenient for repeated procedure is to check the "run as another user" checkbox in the properties dialog of the shortcut.

    If you fly with mouse, mouse input doesn't pass to the game while you are alt-tabbed, but keyboard does, what can lead to disastrous (more disatrous) consequences. Fortunately, if you leave the radio box on before alt-tabbing, keyboard input doesn't go into the game (but for "ctrl+ " combinations IIRC).

    I have an autohotkey script that automates this. Some time ago I posted the whole script (rather useless for the community as it was/is) Here a excerpt of some useful things that should work for everybody, I guess:

    Code:
    #NoEnv ; Recommended for performance and compatibility with future AutoHotkey releases.
    SendMode Input ; Recommended for new scripts due to its superior speed and reliability.
    SetWorkingDir %A_ScriptDir% ; Ensures a consistent starting directory.
    SetTitleMatchMode 3 ; for ifwinactive exact title matching

    ; For alt-tabbing while out of WB. Doesn't work well while in flight
    RControl & WheelDown:: AltTab
    RControl & WheelUp:: ShiftAltTab ; no difference (?)

    ; From here on only working in WB window
    #IfWinActive WarBirds
    NumLock:: SendPlay /!{Tab} ; alt tab with chat line so I can type ouside WB. Works only in flight.
    PrintScreen::!s ; take screenshot
    F2:: Send {F2 2} ; change icons from plane to nick in one tap

    ; control foobar2000 player (much more possible).
    Pause:: Run %ProgramFiles%\foobar2000\foobar2000.exe /playpause ; winamp even easier I think
    MButton & WheelUp:: Run %ProgramFiles%\foobar2000\foobar2000.exe /command:"Volume up"
    MButton & WheelDown:: Run %ProgramFiles%\foobar2000\foobar2000.exe /command:"Volume down"
    MButton:: Run %ProgramFiles%\foobar2000\foobar2000.exe /next

    ; kill win key
    RWin::
    LWin::

    (install autohotkey and save code above as whatever.ahk)

    edit:

    with AHK you can also disable Left and right windows keys (or any key), or assign to whatever, or make them additional combination keys (ctrl, alt...), etc. I disabled them in script above.

    Or use Win2000. There you can use alt+tab and get back to the game without problem, as far as I know. I never tried, but someone said it at portunhol forum. I think it was Sonicx.

    Ur not alone nicea... here's a little list of what ive found: (xp problems maybe?)

    If u hit windows key when playing, keyboard stops working. If u alt+tab, enter straight back into wb and open the radio bar and the keyboard will work again, but ive found the mouse wont give 6 calls.... but if u type anything whilst wb is minimised, the keyboard fucks out and doesnt work.

    The best solution to fix that problem with hitting that shitty ass windows key is a simple one...... get a knife, and pop the fucker out... keyboard looks shitty, but honestly, who uses the windows key anyways???

    And let me mention the antivirus update strikes, the forgotten time-limited pages logout during game syndrome or any windows error messages :D I remember once been in combat,temper flies etc. when suddenly out of nowhere I've heard a >bEeEeEp< then a goddamn error message appeared right in front of the gunsight okay then came operation alt-tab and back, luckily wasnt killed by my opponent but found the ground circling around, keyboard doesnt work so rudder also and BOOOOOOOM :p :D

    Yeah. I had the same problem last week, but it happened because a friend said something on MSN, I was set as offline, the windows went up, the WB went down, I was defending an important medium field as jeep, I was killing the paras, no thread there to kill me, no con, LI-2 down, the time was about less than 100s... I tried to get back, but my mouse wasn´t working. It is very hard to handle these situations...
    Other hard thing is to lose connection when you are about some seconds to close a field with your aim set to the target and the JU is already waiting... It looks like a conspirance from the FH´s admins.

    'sometimes' keyboard gets disabled after alt+tab or winkey.
    It does not seem to be related to if I use winkey killer or not.

    IMO it has been better the last 6 months or so, and I have updated the XP with all updates I need (all there are except spykiller and messenger stuff ;) )

    @biz: i remember those days! they were awesome! monster streaks in ki43, winging illo with 190s, 109 missions with AFVS, escorting KG51, jaboing with GCVG and JG13, and hating when meeting you and the elite in the arena! dammit, i prefer the easy cons! hahah :)

    @ exec: is there any program to control hands? :\

    it's a microprogram within hardware. must be reflashed completely with special equipment. "not to reproduce at home"

    So, a micro-program that needs re-flashing with special equipment. And don't do this at home? Sounds like a visit to the hospital! [IMG]

    suggest you to request guaranteed repair at factory. obvious spoilage in production.
