Steve Jobs knows what he's doing, the didn't get to where he is by playing stupid and fucking everybody over. He's smart, he's not fucking the customers, he's fucking Adobe with a big fat youknowwhat. Flash is old, it's a resource hog, it was never meant for portable devices, it needs constant plugin updates, which are frequently incompatible with each other. Jobs doesn't want that kind of rubbish and then customers complaining about it TO HIM.

So we'll have to wait a bit, wait for HTML5. Jobs is helping to get rid of flash. Someone has to stand up and lead the way, who better than apple?

Yes, we could wait for HTML5. How long? Half year? 1 year? 2 years? 5 years? Ok, if you have so much time so wait, but I'll use "my" flash NOW, because flash NOW knows all what is in HTML5 only on paper in this time...
btw: can you imagine where will be flash after 2-3 years, when will be (maybe) HTML5 functional? Again 2-3 years ahead

A lot of ppl hates Flash, I know it very, very well, but it's because knows only one big shit about it. They loves HTML+CSS, but when they want true display of their web in every browser, they needs mb 30 versions and still testing and testing and testing...
Flash player have penetration about 99%, when you make something, you know, that it will be ok in EVERY browser and EVERYBODY could run it. Yes, except few idiots like Steve Jobs.

One practice: try uninstall the flash player from your computer and just use the internet. Try it. You'll see what all is flash in these days, but you see just that stupid banners. Today, flash is not ad banners, flash are aplications from Flex Builder (Flash Builder) too. And it's quite different cup of tea.


But I agree with you in one thing- Steve Jobs knows what he's doing and knows it very well. Just make a money, that's all. And it's ok, why not.

 

I hear there are a lot of flash related problems on linux and mac os, so not EVERYBODY, and the fact that flash is heavy on resources is a pretty valid argument for PORTABLE, BATTERY OPERATED hardware.

Oh and the omnipresence of flash is a bad thing also. WWW does not like proprietary software. It's gotta go, the sooner the better.

 

Which problems? I know just about some problems with some character sets (cyrilic, etc.). And btw: linux is one big problem for a lot of developers and programs, not only for flash.
Mac OS- i don't know this system, so i can say nothing, just this- if you try to watch some adobe tutorials (for flex and flash too), all of teachers (evangelists) using MACs so i don't think that there is a lot of problems.

It's not mainly problem of flash, i think it's about developer's skill, I saw a lot webs/presentations for which was not 2 cores processor enough.
But ok- FP 10.1 (now available as beta) will be small revolution in this, because FP 10.1 is designed for mobility, the result is more than -50% of resources. You'll see, I have it so I know

Why is this problem just for the Flash? Why not for Java? Skype? Opera? IE?

Ok, write now some plus for the case that Flash Player is open source.

There is not problem for Adobe to make Flash Player as open source, it's not about money, FP is free, but more versions of Flash Player = more optimizing for all versions. And completely pointless. For this we have browsers and CSS etc....

If there will be something better than Flash, so ok, but - nothing.

btw: I don't think that Flash is number 1 for all web sites and web applications, but Flash is damn good for some kind of webs and for some applications (P2P, etc.).

He fucked the Apple computer: he made the Lisa, he made the Apple 3 total disasters and it nearly broke the company.

He went to Xerox PARC and what he couldn't buy, he stole and called it the Macintosh and he ordered all the Lisa computers destroyed (10,000 units in one warehouse) Lisa, named after his girlfriend of the time...

Now the "new apple computers" are intel based and Mac OS X is just some version of unix.

Jobs was against ALL the things that made the Apple 2 worth owning.

Jobs even screwed the Beatles when he named the company Apple, the Beatles agreed (Apple Records) to allow the name as long as Apple Computers Inc. would NOT engage in ANY music business..... ha ha ha.

Jobs had to renegotiate the Apple name when they got into the music business. That time someone called him on his shit.

When Jobs was secure that he had a customer base that was mostly anit-establishment he put the screws to them. The highest profit mark-up of any of the PC factories.

IBM could not believe they were making 55% mark-ups.

When other companies started making clones of the Apple 2, far better than the Apple 2, such as the German Basis Computer and the Franklin Ace 1000 and 1200, Apple made violent attacks and lawsuits blocking the production of superior machines . Did Apple improve their product at all???

HTML5 will be maybe good, but not for now, now it is still in process, as I wrote earlier, you could wait, I will make money rather in this time. And by the way, try to develop something in Flex, it's quite easy and if you know Java or C#, Action Script will be easy for you too. And you'll see how fast is developing in Flex. And time is money...
