Tree frogs have been singing outside my balcony door every night for a month.
    Yup.
Early spring here in SW BC, Canada.

Woman in the building, here, learned from another woman here, that I repair borked PCs.
    As charity
She wanted XP fixed. I told her there is no fixing possible. She was unhappy. I said, I ain't finnished. Wait.
And I pulled out a DVD and fumbled around, got it to boot.
I could access her mall-ware ridden MSWindwos XP drive, that was inaccessible from within MSWindows XP due to a thousand pop-ups.

I saved her data into a USB drive from the Linux live boot. And I installed Son Of Ubuntu, which is Linux Mint.
She was really nervous. I reassured her. She watched.
When it was all done, I stepped away.
I went to her little kitchen to fetch coffees.
She said, from her little desk:
something really compimentary, she was.s thrilled.
    She said I am broke.
I said, I don't do this for money.
    ...

I brought the coffees to her desk.
    She slid off her chair

    ...

    ...

    ...

    I am really enjoying life.

Yeah, what's with this Mint distro? Seems that everyone loves it. Seriously, how many of the poor folk on this planet would be able to successfully really use, really gain from Mint? It's still a geek tool!

Why are our OSes becoming ever more difficult to use? There's something wrong. Our mother and grandmothers should never need to know about OSes. They should be able to sign on and get to work!

    OSes are easy thses days.
Use android. Don't modify it. Don't touch it, use it out of the box. Easy, right? One of those I-things. SAme thing, easy.
Both are boring as hell untill you become root and tinker.
Same thing Mint, and many ohther GNU+Linux OSes......

    -----

Mint is really easy to use.
When you never, ever do anything that requires a root password.
When you do stuff that requires a password, then mint is as nasty as any other operating system, GIGO.

Mint is not a geek tool [but could be if a user runs as superuser, aka root . So, Gramma, don't.
Safer that way. ANd not very geeky.
If you don't know what I am sayin' you should be ashamed of yourself, sorry..

Gentoo is, Arch is, Slackware is.... Geek tools.
Mint? Nope. Pretty easy. Pretty simple. It 'Just works.' Grab a live Linux iso, burn it to usb or a dvd, and try it, Live Linux*. You will see what I mean by easy.
Best thing about it, is for about 50 cents, you can try it, live. If it doesn't work live, then pull out the dvd or the USB stick and reboot.

    *Sounds like like Lyve

With all that said, I have and use, MSWindows 8.1. Perhaps I use it about 1/4 of my time on this PC.
I think, with Classic Start Menu, uh, it is from http://www.classicshell.net/, added the MSWindows 8.1 is awesome.
I have caught some malware on the web a couple times, you know, pop-ups.... but I can deal with em. I act aggressively.

    Uh, what am I sayin?
Well, Man, if you are comfie with MSWindows 8.1, or 7 even, and have things working okay, don't worry, I would not urge you to make the switch.
Maybe get ye a USB hard drive, you have seen them I am sure... They are something like 300 GB and are made for laptops and they have a little dock for them, so they don't strain your power supply in your PC.
Uh, Linux will install on one of those just fine. GO into the back of your pc and diconect your hard drives to be especially safe while you play around with a Linux.
But, like I said, the latest MSWindows are reliable, stable, pretty and more secure than they were, by far. With a caveat:
    GIGO.
    Beware A.S.U*.
    A Stupid User.
I have some software that runs faster on my Linux.
In Windows world there is lots of goodies, just don't do drive-by downloading.
I have Win8.1 on a SSD and tweaked it so it will be the best it can be. With Classic Start Menu, so the GUI stays out of my way, I like it, almost love it, except for the security flaw inherrent in ALL MSWindows OSes.
No isolating of a user from the system. And that stupid thing that comes up demanding a click not having readed a word of it, is insane, stupid.
That is my only BIG beef with MS OS now.
They need to buy a license from BSD [or GNU+Linux, but, uh NEVER will they do that, eh?], like Apple did, and redo their kernel.

Have fun with your MSWindows 7sp2 or 8.1 or 10b.

    Re: 2015 VH Tour ;)

    'Flogging A Dead Horse: WHY?'

    Listen to this!!!*
Best to losten to a recording, not TYoutube which doesn't have very good sound, the bass is 'clipped' and the treble is, well, clipped. I don't know if those terms are used now, that we have digital, but that is what Youtube sound does, audio clipping and the Youtube Posters injects noises so they can get around the Google-Robot, there are some scary nasty SPEAKER EXPLODING bursts, in youtube vids, watch it. But don't turn it up too high, you might lose your tweeters, uh turn em into shards. Maybe blow the woofers. NOT because of the depth of the sound, but because of the terrible COPYRIGHT NAZIs requirments that sound be altered so that it turns into fuzz.
    Never mind.
    Just beware of Youtube Audeo.
Nostalgia is not the same as melancholy.

Oh fuck, I am sure I told all of you about the time I first heard this record, I never heard of those guys. And then that record was played, at the time the ACID WAS PEAKING.
    WHOA.
I had to rescue my sister from a 8 foot tall biker.
    WHAT A DOWNER.
Adventures are fun after they are done.
    During? They are an adventure.
See what Bilbo Baggins had to say about adventures, and smoking a pipe after, telling stories about em. Later.

PS: It is 2:15 PM, so NOBODY in this building better complain about the Eruption happening up, here, in my suite, right now. I close the Balcony door so the whole Masonic housing complex I live in doesn't have to hear it, but the building is shaking [50 Watts doesn't sound like much, but it is just fine to get a guy evicted]
I remember thinking, NOBODY can make 'You Really Got Me' any better than the Kinks did it. I WAS WRONG.
And th Acid was called Dragon, it was Red Dragon, Blue Dragon, green dragon. I think they were all the same, I should know.

    I said too much.
    Bye
