Bowie was second band I saw in a Stadium: This was his current, it was shocking, I heard title song on the radio, yeah, but live? WHOA, what a pro. I hadn't heard or seen anything like it live, no not even Rush, who were, back then, nobodies.
My friends said, BOWIE IS A FRUIT! I said, FUCK YOU, IT DOESN'T MATTER!
It wasn't long, maybe another year the savage teenagers in my neighborhood shut up, and listened.
Now, I am not ahead of mt time and nobody in the hood gives a fuck what music I like, but back then, Oh, I was in a small group of teenagers near here who LISTENED TO FM!!!!!!!

Mac, don't look at my youtube links?
    FUCK YOU, your loss, asshole

    ;)

I saw Bowie again, years later, tour was called Let's Dance, opening act was [depressing] Peter Gabriel, but by the time that was over the white blotter acid had kicked in and the pint of whisky I had in my coca cola was working wonders........ then things got better.
60,000 people were my companions that night. Remember festival seating?

Oh, I had heard of Stevy Ray Vaughan but thought he was a hillbilly, I was SO WRONG.
    "
OH, GOD, please say it was:
Robert Fripp, Stevie Ray Vaughan OR Mick Ronson

Yup. Bowie and a few other Band Leaders had great influence on my musical tastes. He helped me get A CLUE.

It was Fripp's friend and colleague Adrian Belew.

Listen: Belew is my god :) I showed up drunk at the airport, after a night of partying with WBFree's famous Boroda :) And there I saw Adrian waiting for the same flight back to New York (Aeroflot, and not first class on this flight!).

Adrian's such a nice man. Going through customs at JFK he remembered my name -- what more can I ask of this life? :)

BTW, as you know, Mick Ronson died a few years back from liver cancer. In his later years he produced Morrissey and managed to make that dude successful... And of course, SRV, famously died in the plane crash. Fripp is, of course, alive but not very active now.

Belew's working on a new album (in Tennessee).

David Bowie was quite a guy. A baritone singer....did anyone notice?
Very few successful baritones out there...in pop anyways, they are almost always tenors..

And, on that note, if everyone is singing pop in a tenor range, it leaves the audience craving for something heavier...
    (a baritone)

Elvis Presley and David Bowie. No one could touch them in their range.
Mariah Carey, go scream your head off lady, I was sick of you like 20 years ago.

    David Bowie vocal range

sings with Ronson at 4:40 I think..

Oh yeah, bowie's tonal range was quite the thing. Oh, man, make most vocalists croak and crackle, COUGH AND CACKLE without one of those inventions [which I hate]. Nothing wrong with a singer who has limits, they just need to sing within those limits, no need for fakery [FUCKIN Cher, oh GOD]

    EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
FUCK, been a week of mourning for me

I don't think even Bowie could do this without some digital help. Am I right?

My Babushka told me she cried for days when George Gershwin died.

Bowie was an artist. Singer-writer, performer, actor..

He did it all. He was fearless.

    Performing with Klaus Nomey.. DAMM

He projected the life on the edge...

but who knows his private life.... And who
    cares?

He leaves a body of work that speaks for itself
and will entertain and amaze future generations!

Not digital, but a bunch of overloaded tracks on tape. They used to munge them all down because they had, often 8 to 16 max. Check out Ken Scott's book *Abbey Road to Ziggy Stardust* (and his drum track products)!
