I don't remember the version of the X-plane I started with. It seems to be the 6 or 7 Х-plane.

I Mistakenly gave the version of X-Plane that I first had.
I had got some previous versions but that was back when I was duel-booting so I could get that thing to run on a windows box of course…
I remember that I had a deep yearning and I used to regret that X-Plane did not work except on a Microsoft or Macintosh machine.
And then one day in a brand of very high class and high priced things in a grocery store that offered things like that I saw a little box full of CDs and it said on the front in red letters this works in Linux….. or something like that!
The first version I bought for Linux was X-Plane 7.
That was the first version of it that I bought for one simple reason and that was it was the first version of the X-Plane that supported Linux.
I recall having to order all sorts of parts. Things that were supported and could thrive in the Linux world.
One thing I remember vividly was ordering and then installing a NVidea card priced right for me.
I think that was before the conquering of the world by the web…

I'm somewhat sad about Targetware. It was such a promising sim.

Are there any modern multiplayer combat sims that are comparable? Maybe newer incarnations of Il-2? (back then, in comparison to TW flight models felt scripted)

Those fixed gunsights were a downer, but I really loved the flight model. You could really take advantage of air flow around each wing.

It was all about the pilot not the plane. A good pilot could manipulate P-39 to outturn Zero.

The glory days have passed. I still miss them and frequently finding myself wondering whether this game is up...

Game is more of less dead, but people are alive.

That's the most important thing. The strength of the community shows; we're still here posting after twenty years or so. :)

I wonder what's keeping people from trying this once in a while? I remember some guys who started going into tank combat simulators. They either got bored or just didn't have what it takes to be a good pilot?

Some people try. Server is online.
That's why game is "mostly dead" and not totally dead.

But to have fun you you must at least have like 10+ people online. Which is not happening.

At least 10 people? Seems doable. Just need to get some attention. I remember in the past when it was getting slow, I suggested that people log into the WBChat and wait. That's what I've done the past and I'm doing it now.

I remember when being on there, don't remember those numbers! I do remember seeing numbers around 30-40 most often!
