first step is to learn how to play the basic 7-note scale

i dont know how to tell you how to find the first C, but once you do:
blow (C), suck (D), move to next step (right), blow (E), suck (F), move, blow (G), suck (A), move, suck (B), and finally blow again (C). something like that AFAIR

as you see, its all blow/suck, except for B, which is someway switched.

WARNING: youre supposed to blow/suck air, and not the harmonica itself. (preferably not any other object as well).
oh yeah, and use the harmonica laying down, with its tips pointing to your left and right (low notes to left, high to right), and not one tip pointing to you like you thought, you damn cocksucker.

But for Blues you play a harmonicain a different key than the song is in and blow when you should suck and suck when you should blow! Seriously you play in a key 1/5th higher than the guitar and "draw" most of your notes because you can "bend" notes when you draw but not when you blow.

    P.S.
none of this sucking and blowing has anything to do with fellatio you perverts!

I can play music, I'm not THAT new lol you don't need to explain how to blow. Although it may help voijtas.

I have a Horner "C" harmonica and another "A". I need help with bending (<<< dont make jokes with this).

Does how much one has to bend depend on how tall he is ?

For bending try to flatten your toung againt the bottom of your moth while drawing a note with lips pursed. Your C-key harp can be played blues style in songs that are in the key of G. A-key harp is good forsng key of E. one more good one to have would be a D for songs in A. BTW while i was blowing the harp trying to figure how to explain bending My wife asked me if i was trying to teach a Bulgarian (probably a reference to Grobar) to play harmonica. When I said: close, I 'm trying to explain to an Agentinian She asked if you look like Antonio Banderas. Sigh, seems she has a thing for latin men..

It would be nice if you post some sound examples but 75kb is very little space. I have some songs that i recorded but they are 150 kb mp3s.

I'll try to practice that, if I find it difficult ill ask you again.
Do you have any song? maybe you could share?

Geezus..... one month away from FH and when i find a comp (mine is broken) and log in to check the forum the first thing i see is all this suck and blow..... hey... this sounds completely gay to me.
.....but if a drunk reads this quote... :dura:

    j/k

i at least expected to read something about the new path (2 weeks, right?) :D

Hey spaceb, i remember when u played harmonica to me on the Winamp it was nice.
I have a friend that is real life pilot (crop duster) and he plays a hell of a harmonica while plays guitar at the same time. What a show...what a feeling. Ah... hes saving money to buy a comp, he loves WW2 and sims and after he get it i will put him here to fly with us. :kruto:
The sad part is that hes moving to the center of Brazil where he got a new job as crop duster... :(

Well... sorry about all this off topic typing but i was missing typing on this forum ;)

ps: looks like i didnt help a thing, sorry.

    spaceb,

I've been playing blues harp (harmonica) since 1988. Teaching someone how to play is really a 'hand-on' sort of thing. Trying to describe note bending through words is more than I'm willing to attempt, unfortunately. Check out this link to see if something proves helpful:

    http://www.harmonicalinks.com/instruc.html

My best advice is to get a cheap book that discusses playing the different 'positions' of the diatonic harmonica, then get some recorded music from either Sonny Boy Williamson, Little Walter, or James Cotton. Those guys are blues harp gods. Incidently, blues is generally played in the 2nd position, though the 3rd works if you want it to be real melancholy. But, you really can only bend notes while inhaling (sucking) - though high notes can be bent through blowing - which is why 2nd position is the most important for blues: you can bend the tonal note. Best of luck! And remember, you can practice just about anywhere (and after you get good, people will let you - heh).

And, I 'second' everything beerme said :)
