As soon as pony is around everyone flies it...

And 80% of those guys don't know where the real qualities of the pony are...

Hi Zembla,

>As soon as pony is around everyone flies it...

Exactly - it's the best fighter in the arena until the advent of the Fw 190D-9.

Trouble is, the P-51B comes out one entire year early. That's neither realistic nor fair! :-(

Regards,

Henning (HoHun)

Well "wtg" illo. I assume there should be need for great skill to kill somebody with rear gun from "il-2". :D

P51's, F4U's, Spitfire XIV and the Lightning J and L, I think they are the best red fighters in the game. All they have their own vulnerability, but they match against the Focke-Wulf 190's, just try to use them well.

I killed few zeros in turning fight with 23mm and got some 109s with rear gunner.

all these discussions about the best plane in the game.. lets keep quite, mcosta?

@ ptah:

i wasnt talking about me. you came saying that guy in p51 was triple ace of that squad. but hartmann was even more ace. in other words, whats your point with that guy? (honestly)
oh no came saying that p51 is slower than 190, while others say 190 was faster. i cant connect the information.

*****

p51s are boring; just run.
190s still have trouble with diving p51s.
if 190 dives on p51, p51 can outturn.

FW 190A : ~404 mph (somethin like that)

P-38(L or J, cant rember) : 414 mph

FW 190D-9 : 428 mph

P51-D : 437 mph

F4u-4 : 446 mph

The Jug and Spit would haul ass 2 of course... I'd hafta get up 2 get the stats tho...

My money would b on the 38 if under 400.. anything faster than 400, the hawg (from what I've heard atleast) was the shit in RL. In WB's tho (of course), the hawg's a dog.

I've heard that with equal pilots, the hawg was more than a match 4 the hellcat even.

IMO tho, the hellcat was the best fighter from WW2.

In WB's me thinks #1=cat, #2=38f, #3=109f. In RL tho, i'd hafta go with the F4u-4.

Dont ask me y tho.. Its hard enuf 2 remember my opinions, let alone my reasons 4 m.. ;-)

There's no feeling like booming around in the skies flying my thrustworthy 109G2/R6 and both odi and promet second me on that one - I'm confident.

Darn, I noticed this thread way too late! Very interesting. :D

Personally I have absolutely no problems with the P-51D. It's my favorite plane to fly and despite what some people say it is faster than the Fw-190D at most altitudes (at least in MIL throttle - the Dora gets a greater speed boost out of its WEP than the Pony apparently). At least it was that way in Version 2.76. I have actually measured the top speed of both the Pony D and the Dora at almost every altitude from sea level to angels 35 (with MIL and WEP throttle) using a stop watch. I've still got the graph and the data on my HD. Anyway, I'll just give you my results.

Code:
P-51D Fw190D9
Alt	MIL	WEP	MIL	WEP
0	350	363	357	376
1000	351	363	353	377
2000	356	370
3000	362	372	359	384
4000	366	379
5000	373	384	370	392
6000	375	388
7000	381	393	376	401
8000	386	398
9000	389	403
10000	393	408	387	405
11000	396	413	394	408
12000	400	416	400	405
13000	406	421	403	415
14000	409	425	412	424
15000	406	421	412	424
16000	406	412	416	430
17000	402	412	421	433
18000	402	414	418	429
19000	404	413	418	432
20000	410	421	412	426
21000	411	420	411	431
22000	419	425	414	433
23000	423	433	407	433
24000	421	427
25000	427	435	403	431
26000	431	439
27000	433	439	400	430
28000	426	429
29000	426	429
30000	417	419	397	428
31000	410	411
32000	409	409
33000	408	408	384	391
34000
35000	390	390

Hope the board doesn't mess it up. All speeds are mph TAS (true airspeed).

I don't know if FH has made any changes to the flight models since then but they still feel the same to me.

Anyway, some people seem to be under the impression that the Mustang was some sort of Uber plane that could easily outrun any other fighter. Well, that's not true. It is quite a bit faster than most planes, but the Fw-190D is pretty close. However at altitudes above angels 22 the Mustang clearly has the advantage. So stay high and the Mustang will wipe the floor with any Dora (provided Odi doesn't sit in it :D ).

Alright, I wanna say one more thing. I'm not saying the Pony D is better or worse than the Dora, but I' prefer the P-51D over any other plane including the Fw-190D9. In my opinion these two fighters are so close together performance-wise that it really only comes down to who's the better pilot.

WTG ant!

Finally a dedicated pony jock with both
reasonable opinions and hard data.
And no sign of whining at all :)

BTW, ur speed data is very close to what
I thought about Dora vs. Pony
THX for sharing.

It's a matter of taste. I love the A4 in it's first days because i can do a good B&Z job with it (one burst one kill capability), but later i prefer to fly the KI, IMHO one of the best gold fighters @ FH: a fast (the pony is only slight faster then the KI... if trimmed properly) fighter which i prefer to fly in B&Z, but can do some T&B if needed (or if forced by some russian ueber-planes).
