Dear russian programmer, please re-design the Il2. At the Moment this plane fly faster than 190 A4 and can take 40 hits of 20mm plus many more of 12.7 ! Cannon
il2 have max level speed of 398 while 190A4 524 (without wep on sea level) ------------------ Roman aka rgreat
Yeah, and it turns better than most fighters and takes damage like a hangar. I've actually seen people using it as a fighter, taking off in them to defend fields...and it works. Damn near invincible, good guns, and hey, have a tailgunner while you're at it. Another overmodeled Russian plane.
well the il2 was a very hvy aircraft, and maybe the one you encountered had energy advantage. and yes, the il2 was as vital to russians as "air and water" the Ilyusha(meaning flying tank, the flying infantryman,or the hunchback) to th germans they called it the"schwarztod"or"black death" the il2 is not unlike the a10-warthog, tank buster. it can take quite a punishmentas it was armored heavily. so i suggest you take great care when ecountering one. the sturmovik is one heck of an aircraft, with lots of firepower also. im not sure but i believe they even used grenades on small parachutes, to drop behind them when a con was on them. ouch!!
In RL IL-2 had smaller turn radius but lower turn rate than German figters, which allowed it to successfully engage them in reversal when the fighters overshot it. All vital parts were armored. The tailgunner was protected by the armor plate from behind, although many complained about his protection. The only way to shoot it down relatively easily was to hit the oil cooler tunnel under it's belly, which btw had armor shutters, that were supposed to be closed when attacking ground targets.
Well, if IL-2 is so heavy armoured plane, why it flies so easy? Armours weigh a lot, was that considered when modelling IL-2's parameteres?
Armour was not just plates mounted on an airframe, but the armour "bathtub" was a stressed element of construction, so it was much lighter then any other plane that carried the same protection. ------------------ With respect, Pavel Pavlov, wb:boroda Commissar 25th IAP VVS
Here are some pics that illustrate how much damage IL-2 could take. Two hits from MG 151/20 in the rear armor of pilot's cockpit. The left one is penetrating. A hit from MG 151/20 in bottom engine cowl. Two hits from 20 mm flak in the left side of pilot's cockpit. A hit from 37 mm flak in the right wing. Aft view. A hit from 37 mm flak in the right wing. Forward view. Here is how IL-2 could look like at landing. [This message has been edited by freddy (edited 08 August 2001).]
Oh, my... these two (brought by freddy) These are THE cases when pilot fall on the knees and kiss landing gears madly! _____________________________________________ By the way, folks, are you lazy to check elementary data of airplanes?! Il-2's wing surface 38.5sq.m for 6360kg normal t.o. weight gives 166kg/sq.m (SIC!) of wing load. FW-190 has 224kg/sq.m, Spit has 136kg/sq.m. Il-2 could be heavy, but turn shortly.
Who cares to shoot at stab, rudder and wings on the ground, huh? If you ever saw documentry footage of B-17 this kind of damage is typical for air combat. BTW B-17 was very rugged plane and could absorb extensive damage almost as IL-2 did.
Cannon>how do you know, that these IL2, on the fotos above, wasnЄt destroyed on the Ground? Being sceptical like you, anyone can demolish current flight model of any German (for example) airplane. Should I? As I understand, these photos are collected by some reason. I guess that this reason is "in flight combat damages". I believe that strafed airplanes are damaged some other way, than displayed. [This message has been edited by -exec- (edited 09 August 2001).]
Nope, exec, you should make the 110's more stable, more armored and equip 'em with more lethal guns. V. ------------------ Zerstoerergeschwader ZG76 "Haifisch" - We have enough 30mm for all B17 Customers -
"how do you know, that these IL2, on the fotos above, wasnЄt destroyed on the Ground? Cannon " Look at the angle of entry--that would be a LOW strafing pass. As bad as I hate trying to bring down Sturmoviks in this game, everything that I have read indicates that the Il2s could take a hell of a lot. However, I must admit to wondering about speed/manuverability (I have had Sturmoviks outrun me in a 190 in a power dive w/WEP engaged.
Ahahahahahahah! Yes, do that! rcosta will surelly love the idea... but, i think only stability is needed. I'm not a fan of the bf110, but I kinda like to use thjat whale from time to time ( specially in the beg. of the war, the C4 variant ). It's a true challenge to do anything with it... The 110G2... this one doesn't need more firepower... it's already stupidly lethal in competent hands ( rcosta ? ) . mcosta Sturmtruppen
True, but I wouldn't pass a Bf110 with Tungsten-based rear fuselage, strengthened control surfaces AND an extra 500hp per engine myself Ooohhhh... you flatter me. Make it as agile as a Ki43 and I'll forget the 30mm rcosta Sturmtruppen
ok... i can see a 30mm hit, 2 x 2.17 a 20mm...ok! but please show me a foto of a IL2 with the damage of 40 x 20mm plus a lots of 12.7 ... when possible in flight Cannon
