It is very hard for one to defend himself when he is dead. With the current laws in most states in the US one is legally required to take the first impact in order to legally defend himself. The "first impact" might very well be a 9mm to the head. Big-jo, why is California on your black list? Many parts of that state place as much emphasis on liberal rights as your country does.

This is likely true. There's rather a sort of competition now, in the US, between legitimate, responsible gun owners and criminals. I do not worry at all about the former. But I do worry about the ready availability of weapons to criminals. It's strange. When I was a boy, my friends and I had access to loaded firearms every day, because our parents were military, in law enforcement, or simply hunters. But we learned to respect and handle weapons properly. The problem is that criminals don't follow the same rules, so it's probable that an overall reduction in firearms availability would reduce gun-related crime/death. In my adult life I have had f**ktards point loaded weapons at me in anger, and I'm glad I didn't have a weapon to respond So I freely choose to not carry a weapon. Actually, I hate guns now because I've seen too much pointless violence. Anyway, I'm a terrible shot, even with rifles So yeah, I'd be down with outlawing private ownership of weapons if it meant taking guns away from criminals.
