Well a third term of Labour (and Tony Blair) in the UK.

All in all I'm quite pleased as the prospect of a Conservative victory would have been quite daunting.

    ho-hum

How many terms are allowed in the UK? In Spain maximum is 2/president

The US has a 2 term limit too, but there are no term limits in the UK. We had the same Prime Minister for about 50 years once; several hundred years ago.

    Shame the conservatives didn't win...

    peace,

They can go on forever but nobodies made it past a third term in recent history, Margaret Thatcher was one of the longest serving PM's at 11 years 209 days, then she dramatically stepped down and John Major took over as leader of the Tories and won the next election, he served 6 years and 154 days as PM.

So we had the Tories in power for 18 years under two Prime Ministers.

The whole lots here if you're interested:

Well Brittish are awfully stringent in this respect! Only 1 (one, un) term per monarch. "No reelections here, Im sorry, mate." is what they say.

Oh, congratulations with St George day, BTW! I missed the parade today. :(

Definitely better having Blair back for another term than that freak Michael Howard. Besides, Blair will only serve another 1/2 years then will hand the reins over to Gordon Brown, who also happens to be the best Chancellor this country has ever had. If he is half as good a PM as he is CotE, then Labour will be going for 4 or even 5 in a row.

Well, if you mean by saying Liberal the 'left' of UK politics, then I hate to tell you that Tony Blair is leader of the main left-wing party in the UK...

Albeit not as leftist as they used to be - more centrist in fact - but still with socialist leanings.

    ;)

Well, if he's one of your leftists, then I'd really like to see what your conservatives are like. ;)

He wont be around for much longer imo ;) And the man tipped to take over, Gordon Brown, is certainly of a more socialist leaning than Blair.

Our conservatives at the moment are just a bunch of fannies with absolutely no direction politically. A la Dubya :p

@ Gro: LOL okay you got me :D

Interestingly enough the Conservatives have already begun infighting about the direction they should take (now that New Labour seems to have occupied the middle).

The main topic of discussion amongst them is that they should adopt the same stance as the Republicans (i.e. Privatise everything).

Funnily enough they don't seem to realise that that will alienate them even more.

Well, if there is no more space on the right for a distinct party, maybe they should jump over to the left and fill the gap there? :)
