I just read a thing by a guy named Erik Shilling, a pilot in the AVG. He said the Thatch Weave, or Beam Defence was a tactical doctrine in CBI theatre and not a new thing at or around the Battle Of Midway.

I am sure many pairs of fighter pilots practiced and used the tactic
    but not as doctrine...

    Interesting article

Lt Commander JS 'Jimmy' Thatch USN. Originally designed
to cover each others tail in Wildcat vs Zero conflicts.
Was also adapted by the RAF, USAAAF and Soviet Air Force. Per my literature, Thatch developed and practiced this techniique with his squadron while the Saratoga was in port at San Diego Naval Station in 1941. A year prior to Midway.

    i love naive americans.
also, thatch ivented vodka and metro that russians beloved. and the word moskva too.

by 1941-06-22 soviets had majority of vvs in i-16 types and some i-153. new mig-3, lagg-3 and yak-1 where of very few quantity.
why soviets having slow maneuverable plane i-16 against fast boomer 109e, would adopt "tactics vs more maneuverable" plane? soviets needed it against Fokker Dr.I "Dreidecker"?

i hate fucking stupid arrogant americans too, but its a simple enough idea that probably a lot of people developed it independently.
    kinda like the spoon.
americans probably think their priests invented ass rape, too.

Italians developed that tactic in our fashion labs, then sold the copyright to Lt. Thatch who, needless to say, was the Dolce&Gabbana agent on the Saratoga...

fuck, man, i think you (or some major quantity of) yankees get some complex or whatever to believe that america invented things and everything.
probably short culture (200 years only) and absence of ancient artefacts and achievements really hurts hearts, and makes yankees to prove to any telegraph pole that yankees r00lz, despite of common knowledge.

I wasn't thinkin "American," I was sorta thinkin, well, um, "talented tactician."

There are actually idiots who think a guy named Michelin invented rubber, okay?
    He didn't.
But what he did do was pretty cool anyway. Even if a russian guy by the name of Mikhail Lateks was the real invented of rubber.
    Yep.
From potatoes. Try and beat that, stupid.

    Nunc est bibendum.

Rubber was used on wheels earlier, but the french d00dz were the first to successfully use inflated rubber. Tires.

A long and tiresome (sic) story cut to 1 sentence. Pay at the clerk ;)

    take yer favorite pot.
put some into a little tube. Not too tight.
perforate the tube at the top, once and the bottom many times.
Take a can of butane and stick the nozzle into the top of the tube thingie.
Squirt some into the tube, holding the setup over a dinner plate. Outdoors.
There will be this freezin stuff drip onto the plate.
Let it dry, it will pretty quickly.
Scrape the stuff off the plate.
    It is pearly white.
    Hot knife some.
Or warm it up and soak a rolling paper in it and blow a fat one.

    Called 'Hippy crack.'

    This post will self destruct.

The original question was, 'Who wrote thatch weave up as a tactic?'
My response would seem to be accurate. Thatch indeed wrote 'Thatch Weave' up as a tactic. Surely though the manuever itself was practiced even in WW1 long before.

Again your misplaced passive aggessive and homophobic comments I find curious . I smile at the thought of your tough talk if we should speak face to face ;). Wishing you to find an inner harmony.

Fuck, man, you're fucking wrong. You honestly think that? You Russians (or some major quantity of) seem to get fucking angry whenever you hear the word 'America' or 'Yankee' or 'United States'. The whole reason I stopped visiting this site because all I fucking heard was "America BAD!" Pull your fucking head out of your ass.

Countries are overrated. Now continents, there you'll find the shit, still overrated. Planets, they're the future man, planets.

Which planets would you recommend? I'm always looking for a place that I can call home :)

From birth I always thought that I was a citizen of a certain country. Then, later, having those dreams dispelled, I took solace in the fact that I was part of a certain culture. Then reality disproved that as well.

    Where to?

Fooey, ain't nowhere left for me to go.

    Hehe. Called WASPs.
    Join up.
Ignore the ones with beer bellies, shotguns, pickup trucks and Confederate flags, they are not WASPs, they are cousinfuckers and long ago bred any brains out of their 'culture.'

On second thought, isn't Tony Blair a 'WASP?'

    Fuck.

Never mind what I said above, if Blair is a member of any culture I might be in, I want OUT, now.
