I have to agree with Queequeg, Lightin' Hopkins kicks ass! And I'm not saying that only because it's the only blues CD I have...

For me, blues must be played by an old black man, toothless if possible! They are the one who suffered and only a tormented soul can give justice to that style of music.

The electric mud rules, definitely check out Muddy Waters. And while your at it, check out Willie Dixon, the recently departed Johnny Lee Hooker(who had an amazing collaberation with Carlos Santana about 10 years ago), Howlin' Wolf, and Buddy Guy, to name a few.

Great music my friend, no blues - no rock 'n' roll.

Janis Joplin the one I like.
Also some blues compositons from other performers, for example
Led Zeppelin "Since I've Been Loving You" and "Going to California", "No Quarter"

    Btw, check http://www.analogman.com/singblues.htm ;)

Offtop(Jazz): I was excited as Patricia Kaas sang "Summertime" from Gershwin's "Porgy and Bess". Unexpectedly nice.

However I'm a child of rock.
Pink Floyd and Rolling Stones rock!!! :super:

Post Scriptum. Who's Tom Waits? Not bluesman? I always have problems determining the styles. Black Sabbath\Paranoid\Planet Caravan not blues too? I'm a lamer in the music, you know.[IMG]

the list of best performers is so subjective...
you'd better look at rolling stone's or other respected magazine top 100 chart

the list of sympathetic/likeable performers is even more subjective

I'm surprised nobody mentioned Booker T. Laury.

And it's no worth arguing about objective matters. That's why mathematicians never argue.

nic when i said "oneshouldn't limit ones self to just one type of music" i meant any type of music. i play guitar 9but cant read a bit of it) i'm self taught. i have a good ear so i have been told many a time. (i guess paul mccartney my biggest inspiration. he couldn't read music either) but i like to listento classical music alot. i get all kids of idea's when i listen to it. intricate violin solos. and harmonys. mainly baroque style. handel (trio sonatas) j.s. bach (brandenburg syphonys and and his well tempered claviar along with partitas) vivaldi (many various compositions) albinoni, leclair, quantz, fasch.etc and non baroque style. hadyn, mozart, c.p.e. bach (and other j.s.bach sons as well) sir edward elgar (woodwind pieces) etc

    rock
    country
    blues
    jazz
    progressive rock
    soul
mo town (classic soul and blues)

maybe for blues some of ray charles music, but i think he is more swing/jazz blues.

    andother blues rock stuff like
    zz tops earlier stuff

want some wierd instumental music but good is ozric tentacles :znaika: just trust me give some a listen too. :D
