Cross your finger and install Service Pack 2 over your WinXP...
There's a way to create a new installation CD by mixing the "WinXP non patched CD" with the SP2 exe file, it's not hard and there should be plenty of tutorial on the net, make Google sweat. The second option requires a new install of the OS but it's better.
If you're going to update the OS with Windows Update be prepared to have nasty error messages that your copy ain't original, there's a fix for this too but installing only the SP2 will not bring up this issue.

    Do you mean:
You have winxp SP1 but a program requires SP2?

    Bonjour tigrou.

IMO you need to slipstream the SP2 (as said, plenty of tuts are around)
burn the crapz to a CD and update your SP1.

OR (and this is more nifty) get this: http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/

It's nice. And you can use it as a "live CD", ie boot from it without installing anything.

...you could also flash out major Francs to Bill Gates, getting a legit copy of XP. But hey! Where's the challenge in that, eh? ;)

Challenges that are of a monetary matter, are not challenging.

Only boring and makes you wonder why you do not own major $$$ because you need major $$$ to rise to those challenges.

    (+1, al... wtg :D)

Use XPProCorp-keyChanger to change serial key. SP2 works with other key that normal XP or SP1. Just Google for SP2 serial.
