Warbirds in 32 bit color mode (for nVidia and some another videocards)

-Andy- released the patch which force Warbirds to use 32 bit mode instead of 16 bit mode.
This patch can be useful for nVidia videocards owners as described below.
Patch changes wbd3d.exe file. Patch works only for 3d mode.

You can download patch from rapidshare (18Kb) http://rapidshare.com/files/14726504/WB_2.77R3_32-bit_Color_Patch.exe.html
or save and rename attached to my post attachment into *.exe.

You need save the patch into warbirds folder (usually "C:\iMagic Online\WarBirds\") and run it from there.

After applying the patch the backup file wbd3d.exe.bak will be created so you can roll back if you don't like this patch.


IMPORTANT!

If you have old videocard (e.g. Riva TNT, GeForce MX) which works with 32 bit data slower than with 16 bit data you get LOWER FPS.
Please measure FPS (use key combination from FHL->WB Setup->Keyboard Settings->FPS Counter) to be sure 32 bit works better for you than 16 bit.

If you have ATI videocard (Radeon 9600 or higher) this patch doesn't change anything for you, because ATI are not longer supported 16 bit mode.

If you have another videocard vendor this patch can help you (you get better graphics) or impair FPS with no big difference on graphics.

Now this patch allowed on MA, but isn't allowed at TA/SA/TH. But I hope it will be allowed very soon.

i force my pc to workwith 16 bit with an nvidia5200,:
will i have better result of frame rate (avoid so many microwarps)if i use 32bit and patch?

 

I don't know. My patch improves quality. But you can try. If frame rate will be bad, just delete wbd3d.exe and restore original version by renaming file wbd3d.exe.bak to wbd3d.exe.

Wtg it's nice to see that something is still done for this old game. Now i wish some FM changes would be done for the better

 

No need to modify the exe for that...
Same thing can be achieved by changing the 0 to 1 in the next to last line in warbirds\settings\video.cfg
If you have problems with misplaced textures, then change also the second line to
0 0

For comparison my video.cfg looks like that:

If I had understood correctly this method don't fix red color disappearance on some textures.

 

I discovered it at the end of March 2006 But this trick is insufficient - colors of plane icons, gun sights, etc, become seriously distorted. Red is black now. yellow (gold) is green, white is cyan. My patch (except the first byte) solves exactly these problems.

 

CC - what Snakeye describes is insufficient. Red color is missing - means RGB mode doesnt work correctly.

Nice tweak.

 

In an old box I have a Nvidia geforce 2MX.
ALL video is too dark. 3d graphix are too dark.
Gamma adjustments just wash it all out. Brightness adjustments same thing.
The minute I brought that card home, I hated it.
200 fucking dollars so my monitor can display everything in dark green with dark brown highlights. I am using the thing to drive a text only screen because I couldn't find a CGA card in my box of shit.
Fuckers.
