Upon having a loaded Pe-2 outrun my WEP'ing 109F2, I decided to go and google a bit on this marvel of Soviet aircraft engineering. I'm serious, too!! It was a great plane! But for it to walk away from a Me-109F2 on WEP seemed implausible to me. Okay, to be honest, it didn't completely leave me standing ... I just had a really hard time catching up to the Pe-2, and I was diving, using WEP ... just the things you do when you want to catch another plane. Even so it took me ages to get closer. Only to be outpaced once again when I had to evade his otto after firing a short burst into him. This time I would fail to catch up, though. Instead the Pe-2 entered a very shallow dive and widened the distance between him and me. And that was the end of that. So I fired up the trusty old Firefox, went to google and entered "Pe-2 + speed". The first page of results included this hit. Now of course I don't know if these figures are correct. If they are not, feel free to show me yours. But assuming for the moment that they are correct, one can see that the fastest Pe-2 available in 1941 was no faster than 452 km/h at sea level. Unfortunately it doesn't say if this is with or without bombs, on WEP or MIL power and how much fuel the Pe-2 in question was carrying. I tested both Pe-2 models in FH with 100% fuel and a full bomb loadout and got these numbers: Pe-2 173 series with bombs: 446 km/h @ sea level (MIL) / 472 km/h @ sea level (WEP) Pe-2 173 series without bombs: 456 km/h @ sea level (MIL) / 480 km/h @ sea level (WEP) Pe-2 13 series with bombs: 449 km/h @ sea level (MIL) Pe-2 13 series without bombs: 459 km/h @ sea level (MIL) If the figures on the page I linked to are correct and if they refer to the plane's speed on WEP (which they normally do for most planes IMO), then our Pe-2 is a little faster than the historical Pe-2. If OTOH those figures were reached on MIL power then it's a pretty close call, with our FH Pe-2 actually being ever so slightly slower than the real Pe-2 (the 173 series anyway). What sayeth the forum?
I shall make exhaustive rate of climb, roll rate and turn rate tests with Li-2 tomorrow. Now back to the topic at hand, which was 'FIX AIRFAX'S KEYBOARD' ... or better yet, take it away from him.
search the whole web for the smallest numbers you can find. you think you're the first person to invent this research method?
This is how the P-38 got porked/screwed up. Some people complained apparently after I was very successful flying and it was brought to an absurd level of uselessness.
yesterday asmumy walked away from my spit5c. he stated that he flown ju88a4, not s1. but rps is porked with s1 and 179 available too early.
Sorry mate, but what's that supposed to mean? Better not make any remarks about things that seem odd in the game because it'll just get things more porked? I wasn't exactly calling for the Pe-2 to be castrated. I posted my test data, along with two internet sources for real data (how 'real' it actually is remains to be seen) and asked others for their input.
im confused one time devs dont give a fuck about what we write here, while other thanks to some 'whiners' aircraft get porked whatever fits the situation eh
running dcown a fleeing Pe is easy if you know the right method. I bag them in anything as good as a 109f-2. not saying how when i fly the Pe i score off tards that dont know how so frequently & i dont want to give up my fun
Hi Exec, >where did you take cowardly and sad charts? >erhm... yellow an blue. No idea what you're trying to tell me Regards, Henning (HoHun)
Hi Exec, >source of data for yellow and blue charts? You can read it up on beta forum where it was posted first Everyone else will have to ask - since no one asked ... no cookies. Regards, Henning (HoHun)
