That was exactly my point and, btw, I couldn't agree more with you.

Well, somehow I don't believe that airfax was really waving the loss of all those lives off as a minor nuisance.

Read it again and it should become obvious how he meant it (IMO).

@vlamik and ronin: Before you get ending up being high and holy, would we discuss about US soldiers in Iraq or Kosovo situation....?

@redant: I was a bit drunk when I wrote that. I have no idea if was I being ironic, serious or "funny".

    :D

Beats me, haven't watch the movie in ages. The other one drowns into quicksand when they are getting across the desert. How the other one died I don't remember (if he died... ) :D

Don't wonder it anymore. English isn't my native language.
I guess you wouldn't understand any of mine "allegory"s if I'd decide to use finnish with them.

    Simple...

English is my second language as well, but have you ever tried to google on "define:whatever" very nice feature?
Whatsoever by typing in quicksand I wanted to emphesize ignorant behaviour of all those that ignore The Title of this topic. By now I read in news 55000 people died there and aside of that 25000 is still missing. I feel sorry for all those that died there and those that went through that meyhem and survived whoos family members died there. They deserved at least condolences with "a single rose" or more. And I counted only few of 'em in this tread... Human ignorance is endless when it doesnt go over their own shoulders.

ronin, I'm sure it must be horrible losing your life or your loved ones in an earthquake, but do you think if each of us posts his mandatory little rose here the world will be any better for it? It's cool if you like to express your solidarity with the Chinese in that way, but don't demand the same from others.

Perhaps our western ways have numbed us too much.

I read somewhere that the average American child sees something like 40,000 simulated deaths on TV before their teens???

Maybe that's the only way we can deal with that sort of news.

Example: In Los Angeles, CA. there are about 450 gang related murders a year.
NOT Beirut. LOS ANGELES , CALIFORNIA

You may not remember the 55,000 American dead from the war in Viet Nam? Average age 19 years old?

I remember [deleted] a friend of mine when words were exchanged about that fact soon after that war ended.

A "person" responded that it was no big deal, that many people die a year from car accidents a year in the USA.

Well, this friend of mine rather over reacted and while the person was getting up off the floor. I think he was looking for his tooth, he said, let's just make it 55,001.
Good thing his friends were there to take him out of that situation.

So yeah, there is too much numbness and I am sorry to say I am one of them right now.

I'd do a Google search and find a link to that old Doors song: "The Unknown Soldier" but I'm not in the mood, sorry. A quick quote from the lyrics: "..unborn living, living dead, bullet strikes the helmet's head...and it's all over..."

To demand anything at this place will be futille and senseless atempt.
