Pat Martino - "Guitar Forms" Live at club 118 (1968) (aged 24) Can that anyone achieve that kind of playing do w/o anykind of chemical stimulae?
My opinion is that one needs several things to achieve that kind of playing: * A "musical mind." This can't be learned; seeing good sound can't be learned * Naturally efficient and effective picking technique. As well as good physical ability to chord and navigate the fretboard. Because one must be able to actualize physically that which is conceived * Now gets redundant: gotta be able to figure out equipment I'm a terrible musician
That is natural for him. I mean, um, it sounds right, it sounds like, um, "I would play it just like that!" Sort of like skat, with a guitar instead of a vocalist doing it. Yeah he knows his equipment. I think you could put that tune on soft, in public, play it anywhere and people either would not notice it, because it isn't annoying, or they would notice it because it is pleasing.
Find a copy of Fragile, by a band called Yes. Turn it up an on GOOD stereo setup. Sit down, close your eyes. DON'T DO ANYTHING, just lay in that comfortable chair and let the music take you away. Jacobe. [Steve Howe is in my top five guitarist listing]
Fragile was my only Yes record back at late 80'ties, I've listened it many many times and I remember the feeling it gave to me when listening to it..might DL it again since I've lost the record.. ..And thanks guys for replies, Pat's music has inspired me more than any else jazz guitarists i my lil' life, for educational purposes and for listening & wondering pleasure .I was amazed when, after 3 & ½ years of chatting and asking him things about jazz theories he developed in forum with him he came to Finland to play for the 1st time, after I invited him here.It was pleasure to meet him, shake hands and chat with him. I uploaded a lil' clip of him from his documentary to youtube, and asked him was it ok to publish it.. no answer yet check it out... ..startrek.. Pat Martino about hands - feat. Spock, Kirk & The Glingon
Its nice to see guitar players here. Im a guitarrist, have some records, and play in the night in some rock bars
I have love this woman since I was a boy. I don't know how old she is, around these parts, she is immortal. Hills and forests.... and spirits.
Reminds me a lot of west wind. I am on the Pacific coast. West wind can bring us good things and can bring us sudden calamity... More normal is rain.

You are very lucky to have met the man. From my playing days, my teacher taught me to appreciate Martino. Not sure if you will like this Coryell But it's groovy When I was a kid I used to hang out with this cornet player He lived in my neighborhood, so I was lucky We kids used to take care of his cat (Tippy) when he was away on gigs. So we wandered all around his house. Amazing sheet music all over. A horn from Bix in the basement, for real! Jimmy used to try to ring a bell with his cornet. That is, he'd say, hey kids, listen to this, and he'd hit a note on his cornet and make bell resonate. Good guy That's what you cats would call Dixieland, I guess. Jimmy ruled!!!!!!!!!!!!! And you probably have heard of his wife (a world-famous musician herself) Bill Evans and She? Sorry, just remembering my youth Hope you can dig some of that stuff
Hey, nice links & reply bro. thnx thnx thnx. That Coryell song very good, Gobham doing his thang also...
And here's the Mp3 of that 1st in major tonality, then I *tried* to switch this to minor...but..umff..u'll hear..
Jacobe there is tons of stuff by Yes that is really good, especially for guitar. Chris Squire has been my favorite bass player for over 20 years now. Most of what I know come from listening to him. I saw Yes play live around 84, and I am telling you the keyboardist in the band was GLOWING BLUE ON STAGE. and he was looking STRAIGHT AT ME. A strange moment indeed. Then Chris Squire came on stage with this green mouradian bass guitar and started playing some extremely amazing stuff with distortion on it...If musical boners really existed, I'd have an 18 incher that night. Yes playing "Soon" from the gates of delerium off the Relayer album (1974)..amazing Yes playing "and you and I" from 1972 album close to the edge
