The community, the gameplay, everything about this game was just so much fun for me. I havent played it in years, and it probably wouldn't play now on my new PC with Win8, but the great times I had here and the friends I made that will stay with me for life I probably won't replace.

I still miss everything we had around 10 years ago. basman, Gro, beerme ,hashito, afi, malino...to name a few that I flew with. I miss them all still.

You guys (exec and the like) can be proud of what you had here for a time. :@prayer:

Hey Glas. Actually, the game does work on Windows 8.1 ... in principle anyway. :)

I'm having some problems with my joystick, and Windows UAC prevented the Freehost installer from modifying my host file so now I can't seem to connect to the server ... but those issues should be possible to overcome (though I haven't tried in the last couple days).

I'll take another shot at it tomorrow and let you know how it goes (the hosts file thingy ... I suspect you'll run into the same problem since you also have Windows 8).

Hmmpff, so I have given up on this for the time being. :-\

Turns out getting the Il-2 version of WB Freehost to run is much less hassle. :)

    for frwind.

I must agree, I bitch and moan about a lot of things here but the game with RPS and TOD its design and newer additions added by FH is over the whole time a great success. Their may be few playing Especially on week days but atleast on the week ends a few good battles can still be had. So come on back glas and give it a go. and if we get a few more back even more may give it a go. <S>

That video that frwind posted looks pretty good......

So, if I install that game on my win 7 laptop can I fly with a mouse? I just want to run bombing missions and basically fly around and talk about goat cocks and stuff. You know, just normal flight sim behaviour.

I would love to fly in FH but when I login the areana is alway empty. At what times ( GMT ) do you fly ?????:@prayer:
BTW I have a dual boot ( win98SE ) for FH only. I have a special joy-stick with win98 drivers only so it is my only option.

Ah, what I call the “Gilded Age of FHWB”. Logging in to an arena of 70+ plays, many hours of enjoyment. Grouping up with the boys for a secret mission flying below the radar to assault the enemy’s base…those bastards! To this day there is not a combat sim that comes close. Servers that host 30 players at best. What excitement can be had there? None have the capability to host such numbers still to this day.

This is just one element why I say the developers of Wbs created “A Masterpiece” , unsurpassed till this day. Also the perfect balance of game play vs graphics. The graphics are good, not sacrificing gameplay just for spectacular graphics as present fashion. What good is all the graphics if it’s at the cost of game play. Fifteen players a server…bah! Give me 80 players with all the varied action going on!

Taking 6-8 B17s with escorts on a mission to destroy the enemy! I remember the “final mission” we were on that last day of “the Gilded Age”. Five buffs with escorts lining up for the bomb run and then BAM!! The war ended…Ah! we were all so pissed! That was “The Last mission” of the glory days. Attrition set in, no new players and all the old WarBirds were fading away. Playstations, Call of Duty, and the like came in fashion I guess.
Now it’s just memories and day dreaming of could it be again? How to re-release WarBirds Reloaded, anew in all its glory the masterpiece of software development it still is to this day.

Someday I hope to have the time to devote to it.:@prayer: It is on my bucket list of things to do before going on to the next dimension. Warbirds Reloaded in HD! Retail price that’s a little higher than the new Call of Duty release (but if you torrent it w/crack, its free!) It would be valued more, and then people would be hooked as we were. Many Saturday s I remember playing for hours on end lol.
And none of these new games have the camaraderie and fellowship we WarBirds had. None have years harboring grudges for other players as we had. And remember every who said, and it was agreed by all “We could never have a WBs convention somewhere, it would be a blood bath!” lol. The United Nations Security Commission said it is one of the main reasons for the UN today…would never allow it to happen. “Hells Angels/Dirty Dozen rally, Sturgis is one thing, but those Wbs guys? No way, that’s guaranteed violence!”

One possible hope for the future I know of is the DCS WWII: Europe 1944 project. Check out the video of the recent successful KICKSTARTER project for it. Some fine developers teaming up is promising. Currently I’ve dabbled with DCS , it is a hard sim. Mostly jets, but now P-51 but not many in it. You have to actually fly a plane and keep it airborne as in RL, and somehow dogfight too? It is hard, as my son said after taking his first few flying lessons from retired USAF officers he knows “I don’t know about flying in the USAF Dad? It’s a lot of work keeping a plane in the air, constituently making adjustments. I think I’ll be a Chaplin/Para-rescue then a pilot.” I know I couldn’t be a pilot I said, I’m too lazy. (maybe UAV pilot located in the state of Virginia lol)

With 3.5 or so billion people on earth, I don’t know why we can’t muster up 100 or so to fight is out on a weekend at least… what the F&^%? GO figure?

If you have any possible new players feel free to send them this link to a little, simple WBs site I made to download the installer and get some new people interested hopefully.

    Good luck
