Hehe, that is funny, but sometimes it happens, so we must live with this. But one question: Why do some guys fly in 2D-Mode? Cya, Matze
Not too unusual on the big maps outside of peak hours. Why even bother joining the server when there's less than 40 players? (but then if you ask me, why bother joining the server at all? medrl2 is pointless)
hi nicaee, if you ever want to upgrade (maybe ebay or other occasions), i would recommend minimum 16 or 32 megs ram on the card. i played for 2 years with a voodoo1 in 640x480 3d-mode. i must say it is not very suitable, in that case hi-res 2d is a lot better. anyway, for warbirds it is no problem to play in 2d, i think (one big advantage of the game), except the little stars (or crosses) to simulate smoke ehh, what has been the topic?
Elfi- Another reason is framerate. I could play 3d with my old setup, but the frame rate sucked. in 2d at least I got 40FPS. Oddly enough just before I changed setups I changed my monitor refresh rate, and my FPS went way up with it. So it is possible that I could have played 3d all along. And mncgru is absolutely correct. Ground objects canbe very difficult to see with 3d. Runway and fields are almost impossible to see at dusk and dawn with 3d.
hey there led! sure! if i were to get a video card, it would be 32 or 64 megs. my current vid card is 4MB AGP 3d "accelerator". what are specs of your voodoo 1? 8mb? my 4mb gives me 7-13 fps in 3d (underkill), and 60-130fps in 2d (overkill) ;-) tho riva TNT2 32mb here is at 130 bucks (i think this one is bad deal, since its already kinda out-dated). geforce2 MX 32 is about 150, and geforce2 MX 64 megs is at 330! (one brazilian buck, in brazil, is about the same as one US buck in the US. tho 1 US buck = 3 BRA bucks) thats what makes them damn obsolete cards so damn excpensive :-\
yes, i think i understand! i remember, that i wanted to buy a videogame in the 80's in the usa and i haven't done because of the high taxes for export (although i liked the feeling of being a smuggler ) i think it is a similar reason now for different prices today... my old card has been a pci-voodoo I with 4 megs (the first accelerator-card), which allowed about 20fps, the whole system is in use by my sister now. i got a new workstation 9 months ago with a geforce2mx, a reliable device for all purpose, which is now available for 65 euro (= us-dollar), which is good for ~45fps. but again: in my experience hi-res is more important for efficient gameplay. the more as it is true what mcgru and snoopy said: warbirds needs good gamma-calibration, it is extremly dark or low-contrasted in direct3d on the other hand, it is more "flying" in 3d for me , and it should be possible for you to try with your card (and get acceptable frame-rates), since it is agp! have you checked "dxdiag.exe"? or tried new agp-drivers? is it an add-on-card, try to connect it then directly to the monitor for playing, not chained to the main grafics-device. since you are always (?) gold, i don't have to fear, that you will get advantage of better hardware-settings tell me more... <-- ledada with 0d-goggles
my card is SiS, and their site is pretty confusing. and since i use an old OS (win98), i think its risky to get most recent drivers. its AGP, and my monitor is connected directly to it. besides the low FPS, things get all crippled. hard to explain.. fonts in 3d are all distorted.... uhhh.. i give up damn flu.. cant really spend too much time looking at monitor without being bothered by runny nose/tears/unpleasent feeling. ill get back to you latter. thanks for the help tho!!!!!!!!! cya led! nic
Yeah I once had that too, with my old Velocity 128, also AGP, it was a modiefied nVidia Riva 128 (it was a driver prob)... then I switched to Voodoo banshee with 16MB, and then to GF2 MX200, the Banshee was the best, now a new PC with a GeForce 4 MX460... it's a blast greetze, Zembla
