nope, freebeerds server is not distributed.
however, you may use itmo's freehost written in sun-java and wb2.70 version with it. it works on lan perfectly.
but 2.70 version lacks all freebeerds planes, leaving you with ien planeset.
if you are still interested, i can create short description how to arrange such a game.

make them nicely exec, since it will be about the only time you will need to do it. unless, of course, you dont want me to put the description into my central :)

    http://forum.wbfree.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=5523

    server
    http://forum.wbfree.net/forums/attachment.php?s=&postid=50361

    client 2.70
    ftp://www.npi.tpu.tomsk.ru/pub/win32/games/aviasims/wb
    ftp://doit.npi.tpu.ru/pub/win32/games/aviasims/wb
    http://213.151.80.237/index.php?f=download

nicae, i ask you to make a proper topic on central.
you need to unpack server archive, add there an english description, and pack back again.

also, you have to edit runwb.bat to make the certain string to look this way:
    set CLASSPATH=.\;%CLASSPATH%;.\wbHost.jar

    here goes the description (-letter-)
1.you must download sun-java runtime environment (JRE) package (~7MB) from http://java.sun.com and instal it onto server computer (that will host the game).

2.you have to unpack itmo's server (this archive) into Java\Bin or JRE\Bin (that depends on JRE installation) of the server computer.

3.you should know out IP-address of this machine (for others can find it). run WinIPCfg.exe on 9X and IPConfig.exe on NT4/2K for it.

4.you must edit runwb.bat so that:
*the name of java shell is correct (JAVA.EXE or JRE.EXE, depending on the JRE package downloaded)
*IP address is of the server puter.

5.run RUNWB.BAT. you should see something like #Log Started

6.then you have to install WB clients. you can use any version from 2.60 up to 2.70.
you can play on server machine. proceed with installation like on client puters.

7.on client machines you should modify (or create) "hosts" file. it must contain lines:
    10.1.2.16 icigames.com
    10.1.2.16 imagiconline.com
    10.1.2.16 IMAGICONLINE.COM
of course, you must type the IP address of host you knew out in step 3, instead of 10.1.2.16

usually this file could be found in C:\WINDOWS or C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC

the file must not have name extension. just "hosts" (without quotes).
if the file is absent, you should type lines mentionned with notepad.exe and save in the proper place with name "hosts". in the save-dialog you must type "hosts" with quotes.

8.administrator must run warbirds client and log-in into arena with name testaa and password testaa.

9.administraor must add new logins with dot-command
    .adduser <login> <password> <nickname>
    then quit the game.

9'.i recommend you to backup the file USR.CFG, because sometimes it could be spoiled and prevent the server running.

10.all players must run warbirds with their logins, given by administrator

    11.you must start to play.

12A.you can learn the structure of USR.CFG. you can find word FALSE that you can replace with TRUE. one word of two is responsible for administrative privileges, the sense of other is not analysed. however, you may grant administrative privileges with .god command or something like that. you may read .help for details.

12B. the administrator can issue .capt command for painting bases, and (the principal) .time that setups the difference between arena and server clocks in hours. check .help command. you must use this command in the case of pitch-black night on arena.

13.finished playing, all players must quit from the game, and administrator must press Ctrl-C in the server window.

14.after all you may use computers by your taste.

I was just browsing through the forum and found this thread...I have a couple of questions, and some info...

    Question first...

Does anyone have detailed info on how to 'convert' these files (or is this possible), back into Java source, that I might be able to play with, modify, and recompile?

    Info

If you run this on XP Professional, you don't need to download anything from Sun. Just unzip the file, modify the runwb.bat file to point to the location of your unpacked files, and double click on it.

Next, years ago, I wrote a scoring utility for this application. It doesn't provide the scores 'in game', but writes them to a HTML file that you can post or view. If anyone is interested, I'll see if I can dig it up.
