I haven't played H2H yet. But I have tested it over a lan and over the Internet too, works fine. Up to 8 players.
A battalion. Three companies [an arbitrary number determined by the fact there are 10 hot-keys. Each of the three companies has two line units and a flanker. Making 9 companies. Unit 0 is The Right, or Battalion Commader and Bodyguards. I am sure none of you dolts wants to play. [It works fine in MWindows]
When I was first learning this game, I thought, Jeez, I wish there were more hot-keys, so I could control more units.... Then, on play=learning, I found that 10 is more than enough, unless I want to hire a fuckin General Staff.
Bastard. I have a very very good wargame that is 2D and top down, it is called Conquest Of The Aegean, by an engineer game designer called John Tiller. That game is, well, look: CLICK It is fantastic, very detailed, very subtle and boring as hell. After a winter of fooling around with it, I was craving something besides rectangles moving around [a rectangle is the area a unit would be taking, defending or ocupying - depending on stance] and all the action in it is off camera, just a counter and a rectangle on a nato style map. I found myself after that winter, craving to hear a fuckin scream or a groan or the thunder of hooves, the bark of a cannon ... or anything. I cannot stand table top wargmes anymore as I cannot deal with the complex and always terribly written instruction manuals, so I have had to give up that hobby. I had a lot of fun war-gaming back before I blew my mind out [with strokes]. I am not sure about it, but I think I have enough tactical sense to still be a pretty good grognard, if I had the chance to be.
I made a video of conquest of the again which is 3d but is not drawn in three d. it is isometric... well look. Would ya play this? there is a demo of it's partenr game which is about 2 ardennes in ww2. look I want to play some day with someone this game in the link too.
What if you could use an overhead view of the playing area? It is 3d in the below picture but is viewpoint is from above... 5 companies This is 3d too. I play this game this way lots. I post the camera view the other way because it is very pretty.
I handed my little laptop over to the guy upstairs neighbor mine. . He says he has played the old AoE games. We were not playing serious, he would make 50 or 100 playing pieces and I would then we would meet in the middle sort of. I wish I could record the game from the laptop, but I can't. So we only get to see one side's view-point. He was just pushing pieces so I could make a video, he wasn't trying to win, just to moving around counters... This attempt to breach a wall was his first try. He got better after. Maybe he will play against me for real. He says, Meh, cool, meh, I will think about it, meh.. This just looks like one of hundreds of games to him, I guess. http://youtu.be/9B2u9QJjU3k
Mac, the game that is the topic here, not that other one, that isn't, is.... I think I am shilling something that is old news to people here. With the fog of war and the alright way of controlling playing pieces and items, perks and such, this game is a chance for an old codger to whip young guy, as this can be played without a lot of fast hand-eye co-ordination.
Well I remember some game like that about Rome. where there were battles and horse races and gladiator games.. Kind of fun.. But the most rewarding (and lame but didn't take too much time to learn) game was called "Pirates ! " . Way before Disney screwed-up the whole pirate film biz, there was this game. adventure, sailing, sea battles, and land battles, finding maps and treasure and sword fights and if you're good you marry the babe and get titled and retire rich... pretty cool for stupid time in front of a screen when Life was simple. Almost as good as SWOTL ah the age of innocence
