I'd hate to say that, but i think that most of the donated/loaned money never reach destination and will be wasted or stolen by numerous 'fondations' and officials. Well, i hope at least 10% will be spend on target... I think now they more need transport, water, food, medicaments, heavy machinery, and other materials, and of couse alot of qualified personnel. I doubt they can arrange that by themselfs, no matter how much money they get. I can be wrong, though.
Roger that, rgreat... sadly lots of helpdisappear, or get stolen... Atleast it ainta warzone, so matbe not many armed gangs of bandits..
The fun thing is, the ONLY country that is sending out actual logistical help (other than just money) at the moment is.... The US of A! I never liked Dubya, but he has proven he's a human being this time!
afaih ,, there's no actual need for money nor supplies now.. the stores are overfilled in the area and help can't be even distributed ie.. money collected in cz are not planned to be used for buying anything right now, they are to be used for the projects later (i hope so )
No joke , guess human stupidity is far mor than unknown I tooka that story from some newspaper from that region : http://www.dhivehiobserver.com btw here's another pic of some airport before and after the flood
I think your wrong there mate. I've heard of teams being sent out from many countries, in particular Sweden, Australia and the UK.
Correct, glas. We sent out a GSM system and some 1500 phones from Katrineholm, where I work. One of the major problems is that communications are down, a few of the /I think it's Iridium?) satellite phones have gotten to the area as well, but it'e easier with a gsm net. Also refridgerater containers for .. you know what they're for And quite a lot of ppl have went to help.
in germany ebay and post start a mission, put some in a box, write on it "we wanna help" and ebay sells it for noncost, post pick for noncost and goverment dont want tax. a nice idea i think... look in ebay.de for "We wanna help" (=wir wollen helfen)
Ok, ok, I stand corrected. But fact of the matter IS: the USA have got a complete carrier-fleet there, shipping out supplies by chopper. And like I said, I am not a fan of Mr. Bush, but this is just great!!!!
I blissfully stayed out of TV this holidays - except for some Big Brother maybe. I preferred to donate some money to the local Homes for children (orphans) because they live truly miserably, instead of helping the economic rebuillding of South-East Asia. How many billions they got by far!!?
So far? Not much I think, Annan asked the donating nations to actually back-up their promises instead of letting it rest and then only doing half or less of what they promised. Well, I contributed my little part, I think it would help if we'd figure out a way to help them along with the rebuilding in a directer way than paying their construction bills. <Z>
A large part of the money for the tsunami victims will undoubtedly be siphoned off by some unscrupulous bastards intent on making a quick buck. I also worry about local charities, and the effect this will be having on their fund-raising activities.
