I guess everyone on the FH is pissed off by ackstarrers and by the fact that you can make pretty high streaks only by flying rounds in a bomber and letting your sniper superotto work for you...
My idea is: make gunners back what they were in real bombers: the DEFENSIVE not OFFENSIVE element. If gunner shoots down a plane, it's ok - he had done his work well and that's all, but don't give any credit for the pilot unless he was manning the gun! Don't let the host display kill message or let it be something like: "kill of xxxxxx awarded to yyyyy's otto". Don't count otto kills in score at all. I think this should be enough to limit number of bomber pilots only to those who fly them to drop bombs [IMG] (and force the guys who like ackstarring to learn how to score kills in a fighter or to switch back to quake :p ).

i like the idea ! It sounds very reasonable to me that you shouldn't get any credits for kills which belong to the computer. Because the otto is doing all the work for you ...

Yes - and also don?t count the kills from hmacks.
If they want kills - they should take a plane...

    I did not know this.

So this problem is solved [IMG] - now lets take away the kill-score for pilots, when their ottos kill planes.

I find better,if only direct pilot hits count.

Ao take away kills for a pilot if only one of his ottos had shot down an enemy.

    Hi everyone,

    This is the problem:

Otto is turned up way beyond reason to make the game more fun for bomber pilots. Bomber pilots are to bomb things, which they can't if they're shot down before they get to the target. .Otto ac 10 means a lot of fun for bomber pilots.

How's life for fighter pilots now? Miserable. Fighter pilots are to shoot other aircraft down, first and foremost bombers. A fighter pilot refusing to attack a bomber is a coward. So the choice the fighter pilot has when spotting a bomber is:

    a.) be a coward = no fun!
b.) face Ottomonster, most likely get killed, lose streak, ruin score = no fun!

    It's a lose-lose situation.

    Here's my proposal:

Don't count Otto kills towards the deaths of a fighter pilot, and don't make them break the streak of a fighter pilot.

This way, fighter pilots can attack bombers as they're supposed to, and they don't have to worry about getting killed by Ottomonster as their score won't suffer.

Currently, the game balance is fun only for bomber pilots, and the fighter pilots are paying the price for it.

    Regards,

    Henning (HoHun)

Come on! Are you afraid of ruin you freaking point counts by getting into a freaking fight?!?! If you can't kill it, don't go after it! I'm sick and tired of those who just want to build up points, those who stays low on cons's fields with the acks killed just to take out a plane taking off so he/she can get a few points!
If you want to take out a buff go in a bunch, 3 fighters together can kill any freaking Ottomonster without getting killed. Of course that, that means you maybe don't get the point but, at least, your field is safe, and that is what you're supposed to do, protect your field!!! So, stop crying and get to the flying!

    ******

I agree that otto kills shouldn't count points too, but, I'm against of taking out the otto ac 10 option 'cause every bomber pilot knows that it's suicide to go on a misson without a decent cover (that most of the "I WANT POINTS PILOTS" cannnot do) if you don't count on your ottomonster.
Without the hungry-otto, the bombers are sitting prays and THAT it's no fun, ok?

Both sides are right, otto 10 is bad, but bombers need it. Fighters can easliy kill lone bombers. I have suffered this fate many times. I use otto 10 to stay alive a little longer than would otherwise and still normally die.

I have also tried attacking a bomber and on your own its not easy.

Bombers or fighters need to work in teams and ideally together.

Why else did the Americans have fighter escorts during WW2. To Keep the fighters away.

As this is not done to great extent in WB, otto is the only alternative.

If people had the patience to escort bombers ottos would not be needed and the dogfights would be around the bombers and not the bases.

    Hi,

Listen, I'm really tired of hearing stuff like that.

Score should reflect ability, and if I get killed by Ottomonsters, this hardly says something about ability.

I've killed bombers, too, but it's incredibly dangerous.

I've never avoided to attack bombers, and I've cooperated with my buddies. Still, I attacked 5 bombers this RPS, shot down 2 of them, and got killed 2 times.

For comparison: I must have attacked about 60 fighters, shooting down about 30 of them, for 2 losses of my own.

I'm not just a dweeb who doesn't know his tactics - hell, when I looked yesterday, I was damn close to the top of the win/lose statistics on the score pages. So don't tell me I don't know about flying!

I've achieved an exchange ratio against bombers of just 2:2, and it could have easily been 2:3 if I hadn't decided to run away from a TBF that had almost pinged my Focke-Wulf to death, bellying it in on a nearby airfield. A Focke-Wulf running away from a TBF? Silly to the extreme if you know what happened at Midway!

And these were just the toy bombers of the early RPS, B-25 and TBF with poor defensive armament. I've not even fought a B-17 or a B-24!

Once again: I talk about exchange ratios, not the off chance that someone shoots down a bomber without even getting pinged - I've done that too -, but of the long-term results of .Otto ac 10 on the fighter pilot's score.

If you want to make bomber pilots happy by giving them .Otto ac 10, allright, do so - but it would be only fair if you'd correct the score counting to reflect that they have an entirely unrealistic and unfair advantage with their Ottomonster.

They can keep it, but let me keep my score, and let me keep my streak!

    Regards,

    Henning (HoHun)

ac10 is way too much. I say this as someone who likes flying bombers. It's all been covered in the earlier post (F(&!@ OTTO!)

People aren't flying bombers to bomb stuff anymore, they're flying them to shoot down other planes. That's not right.

As someone sayd both sides are right, otto ac 10 is good and not, i think only main bombers should have this option (and not Il2, 110, SBD, TBF ect).
otto ac 10 in some ways give to the game more fun...some times ago (before of otto ac 10 parameter) when i saw a buff i thought "wow a buff let's get some easy points" now i think "damn a buff, let's get it with the right way or i will be killed".
Don't know how solve the problem of ackstars, but the main bombers like He177 or B24 that need many time for climb should have this protection.

What i found, rgreat, mb it would be possible to setup .otto ac 10 avail above one definite hight?
So we will not see more low ackstars (for defend fields for example).
Or chicken pilots whre theyr only way for collect kills is pilot an IL2 [IMG]

I think that's the better solution for now

Greetings all, I thought I'd add my wisdom on the subject as it's the most relevant topis to the way FH is played.

Otto's AC10, I honestly don't have a problem with this is the big bombers (B17, B24, B25 etc) as from a fighter pilot point of view it does make it more realistic, how many times in the past could you just climb up on a B17's 6 with gentle yaws side to side till you got in range and blew it out of the sky, at least now you have to give some thought to your attack and if you've prepared well enough you still have at least a 70% chance of a kill without being killed.

I agree with Odisseo though otto's on the smaller planes TBF, SBD, especially the Il2 should be restricted, theres too many times lately that iL2's are being used for base defense purely because the Otto's are so good and have an unbelievable field of fire (I've seen lots of times a gold being killed by an iL2 otto when it's low 6 to it). This also works both ways, the other day I took off from the CV and headed to F18 in a B5N2, after dropping my bomb I then spent 10 minutes dogfighting with a Spit and succeeded in shooting him down (pretty amazing considering the B5N only has a 7.7mm tail gun and no forward armament).

Summary, big bombers, fine makes you think and prepare more. Grd attack aircraft, restrict as it's being abused.

(point of interest I once put 76x20mm into an iL2 and it still flew!)

    Hi,

Here's what Aike just said about bombers: Otto will be turned down when we have large bomber formations online at Freehost.

My translation is: Otto will never be turned down.

What's the real reasons we won't see large bomber formations?

Easy: There are no worthwhile bomber targets.

Every target on the map can be destroyed with a single bomb. One heavy bomber carries enough bombs to close a small field, two enough for a medium field. Large formations are a waste of time with that destructiveness.

Even more importantly, the real enemy of the heavy bomber is not the opposing fighter - the real enemy of the heavy bomber is the friendly fighter bomber!

The heavy bomber just isn't competetive with the fighter bomber if the opposing fields are just 20 miles apart. It takes half an hour to bring a heavy bomber to an operational altitude and over the target. In half an hour, a fighter bomber might complete as much as five single missions, bringing the same weight of bombs on the target, additionally strafing installations and keeping the enemy fighters down. Even if it might not be as effective as precision bombing, it sure is more exciting!

The only way to bring bomber formations into the game is to create targets that require formations attacks.

If it would be necessary to drop 40000 lbs of bombs on an airfield in order to kill it, we'd see more bomber formations - they'd be the only way to actually take fields. It would be perfectly OK for these 40000 lbs to come down on the target shotgun style, hitting the runway, the taxiway, the grass, whatever - that's the way it was done in WW2, too.

Turning up Otto won't bring us bomber formations - to the contrary, it will make the single precision bomber more survivable and detract from bomber formations.

The only thing that will help is the creation of area targets that need a great number of bombs to be destroyed!

    Regards,

    Henning (HoHun)
