With the DVHAA's Me-262B. No political sympathies or associations; only for historical purposes.

Hi Kutya -- Really now? ;) Do they want autographed versions? ;) (j/k)

Hi Fox -- Yes, of course it's real. ;) It's the last original Me-262B-1a, a two-seat trainer variant of the 262. It belongs to the Delaware Valley Historic Aircraft Association (www.dvhaa.org), and can be viewed at Willow Grove in southeast Pennsylvania. It's unclear whether this particular version was originally built as a B model, or converted from an A model. The A-1a was the typical 262, the single-seat daytime fighter aircraft. If this plane was originally an A-1a, the fuel tank behind the pilot's seat would have been removed and replaced with the second seat.

This plane has recently undergone an almost complete restoration in Washington State, and has been hangared and on display in this condition for about three years. However, the original engines were in a bad state after decades being stored outside, and they were removed and not replaced. (You can see the engine casings and the nacelles, but there are no actual engines inside.)

Other B models were equipped with radar instruments and assigned, in very limited numbers of course, to night-fighting units. (I believe the outboard two 30mm cannon were dropped in this configuration.) This plane, however, has the cannon quartet as an A-1a, and no radars in the nose.

    Regards,
    Jochen

That's a really cool picture, mate! I'm gonna try and find my granddad's brother's Waffen-SS uniform now!

    j/k :)

But seriously, I would do just about anything to get my picture taken that way! REALLY fucking cool..... Is that suit original? I suggest you go back and wear a USAAF-uniform in front of a P-51 the next time, just for posterity :)
