called an 'image processing' thingie. Made by NEC.

...The new Lexus LS460 with the image processors will automatically slam on the brakes a split second before hitting a pedestrian or vehicle and prevent a collision or reduce impact....

What the fuck is wrong with these guys?

So what? If handbrakes are getting "electric controlled" and steering too, then what difference will it make if in-car computer controls the safety gap too?

As redant said, things will get interesting when those computers will decide to "resign" :D

Hell yeah it is for laughs, but from the other side I see it as a main street life saver in the near future.

Bosch has developed a similar system too.

The Ls460 has twin millimeter radar system coupled to a twin infrared sensor array, so it's not only an imaging system.

Mud and leaves and other debris will not bother it too much as in the event of any system failures it auto disengages also if I remember it was used for daylight hours.

As for failures of those little chips, just think how many times those micro wave ovens fail and how. Usually the door safety switch breaks.
Think of all the cars now on the road with fuel injection or electronic ignition.... failures are not too common these day in that the car hardly ever goes out of control because the fuel injection set it self to "freeway" cruise or drag race mode. the microwave oven fails usually and your frozen food or your popcorn remains cold and unpoped. I've never heard of the microwave gets stuck on "death ray" and melts the neighbor lady's parakeet accross the road......

Since we're talking about a japanese car, it might even like it!

Yeah, I had a girlfriend from Osaka a long time ago... working on her masters but her English was not-so great... we talked about cars and she mentioned

something about Bukaki I thought it was a domestic version so I said ; "sure", I'd like to see it........

...imagine my embarassment when we got to her car.....
