I checked the old KG51 homepage and found this old story.

    http://members.tripod.com/KG-Einsatzberichte/id63.htm

14 He177 were performing a massive carpet bombing. Each had 48 bombs and the buffs released them over the target at the same time.

The plan was not to close the field but to cause massive explosions on the target :)

It was one of the most funniest raids I ever was flying.

Nice! I remember a raid with brazilians guys. We got about 15-20 ju88s... it was funny. I remember in the end big-jo and me chasing a spit who wanted to kill him. Kinda surrealistic, but extremely funny :D

That was actually my first sortie with KG51 - I joined the squad en-route to the return airfield. :D

I still remember the P-39 coming towards me (I was in top-left of formation) and me shitting my pants. He was probably so overwhelmed by the number of targets that he couldn't think of anything to do and simply died in the hands of the escorts :p

When we landed and the planes went for the photoshoot near the tower, I couldn't join them because my fuel run out before landing and I broke my tailwheel when I bounced on the tarmac.

Many things have changed since then, both in FH and KG51. :(

I havent checked the link, but I remember the target was F26 on the big med map. I also remember I had just taken off from F2 and thought, like everyone else in the arena, 'WTF was that?!?' :D

Anyone else remember where they were when the FH world shook? :)

Doh checked the link, wrong raid lol.

I do still remember the one at F26 though. I remember sebbo took part in it, cos he was relaying everything to me on ch110 (I think we were in AFVS at the time).

I have found another after action report of KG51.

    http://members.tripod.com/KG-Einsatzberichte/id70.htm

"Only" 240 bombs hit the ground at nearly the same time.

The interesting part is that one of KG51 switched to Red and waited in the tower of the red target field to make screenies.

So enjoy the screenies of the field and watch all these nice cratres :)

If I am not mistaken, p39 who was overwhelmed was me. Not everyday you see that amount of ju88 coming towards you without any cover, too. Went right in middle with 400+mph, didn't hit a single bullet and died of ottos fireing me from all over.

    First, they were He-177s.

Second, the escorts got you, not the ottos.

    :D

Third, you people are probably talking about a different raid than Alec ;)

I remember the good old days when I'd fly a raid daily. Odi and I were pretty busy with organising them back then. Mixer's been busy at that too, only at a later point.

The best raid memories I've got are pretty old, sadly enough, I might have one or two screenshots of them, but apart from that I was usually too busy flying to record something (apart from my own memories of course :)).

I remember in the new med a B17 raid from the reds caught me by total surprise. I saw a big blot of dots heading to a field somewhere in the south of the map (the most southern I'd even say, SE), I took off. Somehow I managed to get some of my squadmates with me, some other people later joined to assist us. My recollection is that we had at least killed half of the bomber force before they could close the field.
Lots of memories of raids with Odi, but it's all so long ago now :(

Hey, I remember that one! It was the first major carpet-bombing raid when FH was changed to have bomb-explosions heard throughout the entire arena.... Someone told me about that change and I organised that strike.... Back when I still used my Basman callsign :) :)

I remember that ones, loved them, as all raids I took with KG51. Always loved those 2 hours sorties escorting them, even if noone showed.
