IMO there are fewer than 5 dedicated P-38 pilots here, and out of those alw is still the best one. (alw and I have been doing a bit of dueling in TA, and more often than not I came out second best.)

Secondly, the P-38 in its current shape may be a pretty potent machine, but uber ... really?

Ha ha ha ha ha...... now that is funny.

Show me the guy who never gets shot down by the better pilot....

...and I will show you the guy is never going to be a better pilot!

The point here is that ALW has helped make a better plane for all of us and not just for himself.

This way we will all have a chance at being a better pilot.

I envy both of them , Alw and Ant. They are dedicated to one plane..
Something most of us dont have....fascination for one plane.
I was trying and trying and still do , but I know I probably will never find that one. And that part of this game I miss the most.

There are quite a few dedicated Tempest pilots, too. Same thing with 262. :p

Kidding aside, it's difficult to fly just one type of aircraft for the whole TOD. If I really wanted to get married to a single plane, I would end up waiting for the end of the TOD for the P-51. What I like to try and do is research a fighter squadron and try to fly aircraft that were historically flown by it. For example, 31st FG flew Spitfire Mk.V, Mk.IX, then moved to the P-51 B/D models.

Has everyone already forgot all the 190 dweebs that use to come out only for that one plane?

    OH YESSSSS !!!!!

I loved it: to hear all those 190D dweebs squealing about how the La-5 caught them and how it was "too uber"... ha ha ha... they were so cocky to pounce and do the boom and zoom, they couldn't stand it to have it happen to them!

It's the combination of a good plane and good pilot; someone who has taken the time to know everything about it and how to exploit the strengths and compensate for its vulnerabilities.

I think you and ALW are famous for that.

That basically sums it up. ;)

I'm so-so in other aircraft but, get better with time in them, as with practice. :joystick:

The P-38 is a mis-understood aircraft by too many.

It's the fuzzy stall characteristics that does it. It doesn't really flick out of a turn at stall, but sort of stops turning altogether. It requires a lot of time on type, so to speak, just to begin recognizing when the P-38 stalls. One of the more subtle reasons why you do BnZ to survive in a P-38. :znaika:

For those who have read something into this, that is NOT an error in the flight model. The P-38 is SUPPOSED TO HAVE GENTLE STALL CHARACTERISTICS.

Was hoping to be able to compete against other comparable aircraft in winging and dogfighting. If it's better than it should be against other aircraft I would be able to tell.

I'll take a look at it. Thanks! :D
