Saw the pics of world war I posted by nicae. I did find an interresting link about the vietnam war, so i thought of sharing it with you. http://www.vietnampix.com
The swastika (or hakenkreuz as exec called it) is still very much a good luck symbol in that part of the world. It is reckoned to originate from somewhere in the east and, iirc, is used extensively by Buddhist monks.
actually its not weird boys are right - its talisman of luck nazis only used it for their purposes, and nazi swastica is rotated with 45 degree, while this one on pic is clearly with no rotation only us, europeans and americans, has first thought about nazis when we see it
btw, recently ive watched Platoon once again i remember when i was younger this movie had big influence on me today it looks quite naive sometimes, mb thats because of some actors acting i didnt like, but still terryfying especially when talkin about human nature, war nature this movie has one of the most accurate thoughts imho
i thought that hakenkreuz is nacists' swastika. probably i'm mistaking, and hakenkreuz=swastika, not exactly nacists' one. some think this way, some another http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=Hakenkreuz http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=swastika one can also seek for "von rosen cross".
well... thats my point actually this, and especially guitar on this solder back, makes u think about them in a way u might not be thinkin before common ppl, with no interests of harming other, leaded by politics to do sth... unnatural and remember this MASH show? about korean war? one of the sadest-comic-show, shows it so clearly
The swastika is originally (in europe, and supposedly also in asia, where it's supposedly imported from) a symbol for the sun. The finns had a (unrotated) swastika for their airforce. Germans had both Big Black Cross with white edges, and rotated swastika on fin (or so) Rumour has it that it was fat old flyboy Goering that imported it as the nazi symbol from the swedish von Rosen's that had (unrotated) swastika as "family charm". Fact is, goering had contact with von Rosens early 30's fact is, von Rosen have used the swastica on details (fe over fireplace , and I believe in tiles on floor) That's the end of my facts and rumours. Maybe our finnish friends can tell why finnish airforce had swastika on their planes. I CAN'T read finnish, so I wont even bother to research that...
From the page: Finnish airforce aircraft "It is important to understand that the blue swastika emblem of the early Finnish Air Force has nothing to do with the Nazi Germany. The blue swastika was the symbol of good fortune used by the Swedish Count Eric von Rosen who during the Finnish Civil War presented to the Finnish White Army its first aircraft on March 6th, 1918. The swastika was painted on the upper side and under side of the wings of the Thulin Parasol he brought from Sweden. The sign was adopted by the Finnish Air Force to honor him." So we do blame Von Rosen that that emblem airfax
