a fascinating collection of color photos from WWI era!
they are true color, not colored B&W photos. it seems they were processed using a so called paget plate system. but what matters is they are crystal clear, beating my 5.1 digital camera :p

they do not show any battles, but they are all related to the war. simply surreal!

Some of the pictures are definetely not WWI vintage, but some are.

    For example, mowed grass.

Some guy above said they look unreal. There is the human hand put it's mark on them.
Ever sionce I was little i have marvelled at my visual impression of 'the past in pictures. The whole world from about 184? or is it 185? and until sometime after ww2 is a bunch of grey images, the past is not alive when looking at old Black and Whites.
Look at one of Cezan's paintings and get an idea of what things looked like in the 1800s for instance. Bright and colourful.
    ww1 photo-images are frightening and sobering and, well, unreal/surreal;
    they are gruesome and/or sad
    and
    grey.

so they are, but these pics have an unexpected quality. Let's say you see a grafitti in a cave, and they tell you: "these guys were cool back in 2000 BC". Wouldn't you be amazed? Well, something similar happens to me. They are so focused, so posing, so nice colours.... seem unreal, that's all

I really hope you're joking, because this shit offends me pretty bad sometimes, and you definetely hit my pissed-off button with that.

@Grobar, I know about scythes, but perfect lines like those made by modern lawn mower? I don't think so.

wow, for the first time i make biles words mine! (probably because it's the first time i understood 100% of what he said, lol)
surreal is the best word - such old styles (clothings, moustaches), technology (bridge building), in such color.. such desaturated color.. [IMG]

In a post-WW2 world, everyone knows about the relevance of scythes... and hammers with respect to world events.

have you ever be using it? (well except jerking around with it during helloween ;) )
some people still using it here; i was working with it once, it was not really perfect lines, the height of cut grass was not uni neither.. but it looked ok; and the old guys who work with it all life.. well they can make it look better than with lawn mower -- actually why one shouldn`t be able to do perfect straight lines :dunno:
it's like writing with hand and not with computer (uh.. do you .. occassionally write something down with pen, dont you)
