This picture isn't rare. It is a fake. The shadows are all wrong. The premise is ridiculous. The shutter speed of the little camera is like fuckin science-fiction. The sheer balls and stupidity of the german pilot is, well, a ridiculous premise.
Nazis made lots of retouched photos.

    The "Stealth Bomber" thingie:
Does a shock wave making vapour require an airframe to be exceeding mach 1 or does it simply require and airframe passing through a bunch of humid air while generating a shock wave?

What's wrong with shadows? Black area in the nose -- most likely a result of engine damage (oil, soot). Lost wing -- a result of coup de grace. Otherwise a german pilot could not prepare to make a predictable shot. Hurricane must has been damaged already and was gliding.

Yes, a cone form shock wave is a result of sonic speed. Humid air depicts only local depression areas at subsonic speeds.

the distance between the hurricane and the shot out wing make me think the plane is falling almost straight down, not gliding forward. and i think both the plane and the wing should spin down. but then biles is right: fucking awesome shutter speed.
    dunno..

The Hurricane could be glider BEFORE the wing was lost (black engine hood). After wing was lost it, of course, is spinning down uncontrollably. But absolutely getting no point regarding the shutter speed. What's so unusual in that respect? Millions of images were taken during WW2. Germans even had specially suited cameras for test pilots, being mounted on the helmet to read gauges and other stuff. So a pilot hands could be free to do whatever he wants, just look at the target and press a button.

Unless the Hurri's prop fell off also, shutter speed isnt very fast

because the plane is spinning, some parts of it move at very fast speed. so only a very sensitive film would capture a clear picture of it.
i'm not saying that's a fake pic, i'm just amazed of how clear it is given the plane's speed in the spin.
and yes, i thought u were saying it was gliding w/o one wing, sorry.

Hurricane's prop is not spinning (eng dead), but has lost 2 blades out of 3. The 3rd one is merely visible (black on black), but you may notice its yellow tip on the black engine hood background. It you make it negative and add some color manipulations (I did), you will see the static prop blade.

If you have no idea of photo image analysis, that's your problem, not mine.
