Here are three (3) pics of my dad, US Navy. What kind of funky kilt uniform is the dude in the second photo wearing?

I know my pops went to some uboat pens in France after the war, I think it's LaRochelle and he told me that he "got into trouble in Paris" -- I will not share the details ;) -- but I know that these are obviously from France ;)

not sure what kind of kilt he's wearing, at least, it's a black and white photo, and the tartan is impossible to tell.

    HOWEVER....

[IMG]Private soldiers in the Argyll and Sutherland regiments wear "the swinging 6"
-Black horse hair sporran with 6 white tails, plain brass clasp, plain brass tail holders and white sporran belt.....

    P.S.

I think I saw your dad in the 1972 "stars on ice" at Maple leaf Gardens.

    ;) :D

Thanks for the info. I'm also laughing! Did Canadian men in kilts do ice skating extravaganzas back then? Very "progressive" ;) Let's leave the joking out of this.

Do you suppose this could be around May, 1942?

On the way to Normandy? "... the 15th Battalion was redesignated as the new 2nd Battalion. This battalion took part in the Normandy battles with the 15th (Scottish) Infantry Division and ended the war on the Elbe River. ..."

I noticed he is wearing the tam o'shanter instead of the glengarry ....

I guess the tam was normal battlefield dress....

Interesting.... still no explanation fo the swinging six... ha ha ha ha
