    XP?..if so.....

    1. My Computer (or windows explorer),
    2. Tools,
    3. Folder Options,
    4. View tab,
    5. Place a check in Hide Extensions for Known File Types,
    6. OK
    7. Right click file,
    8. Select Rename,
    9. Remove '.txt',
    10. Repeat steps 1 - 6, but remove check for Hide Extensions
    regards, Oz

grrrrr I hate such setups, when you hide system files, hide extensions etc.
what's next? some day you'll try to log on and the log in screen will be hidden :p

That guy put a whole lot of arcana there for your answer.
I didn't understand any of it. I wonder if he just pullin yer leg?

right click on the icon you wish to change the name of.
    select 'rename.'
you will see the text under the icon change from icon text to a little edit field.
    Edit those letters.
When there is what you want, press the enter key.

When your computer blows up after doing as I instruct, I am to be held responsible by you and sued.
I will then fly to your country to explain to a presiding judge and then ask him for expenses and a minivan so I can tour before I go home.

I'm afraid it doesn't work like that with the later versions of windows, if file extensions are hidden.

The file name will simply appear as V1 MEDRL.XLS, but will have the relevant icon for the text file program on your system. Changing the name will simply change the name, but not the extension and relevant association.

    Ain't windows grand? Not.

    regards, Oz

    must redownload imho :D
in saveas dialog put names without txt and within double quotes.
it must work for any saveas dialog in win. i mean renaming.
don't try to open binary file with text editor. okay, you may open, but never save then. okay, you may save, but when you save binary file from text editor, binary file will be dead.
