I have a few questions regarding connection, warp and lag in the MA. I know a warp when I see it, not sure I know what a warp roll is (maybe 1+2?) and I guess (!??!) lag is number 3 below.

    1. Warp out of gun range. Example: 109-E (100-120ms) Vs Hurri 1

In my 109 I have altitude and dive into a hurricane who is, in turn, on the six of another gold. I pick up speed and as I close into the final stages of a clear gun solution, (High speed dead 6 pass), the Hurricane warps in a quarter barrel roll type move ruining my shot. I climb & re-evaluate. In climb I see gold is now on his 6, he then does a similar looking warpy thing back onto the 6 of the gold and gets a PK.

    2. Warp into a gun solution. Example: 109-E (100-120ms) Vs I16

In my 109 I have climbed steeply with lots of E, intention to flip over into a dive. I16 comes in rapidly from below (9-10 oc), looping up to me but over shoots. At this point,(while he is upside down), the I16 stops dead, drops (still upside down) bang onto my 6 kills me for a PK.

    3. Hits after pass. Example: 109-E(80ms) Vs Spit 1

A spit makes a screaming pass from high 6 catching me on the hop. I fly looking back wards and as he approaches what I would call firing range I start evasives. I watch the spit comes screaming past on my right (thinking ?OK?my turn!?) and when he is at my 2 o?clock I am hit with a mass (no gunstat in Guinea) of 7mm.

These are 3 situations that happen with some regularity in the MA, I?d like to have some understanding of just what is happening in each case. Are these examples of deliberate cheating? Are they due only to bad connections? I?m interested in the views of others about these 3 particular examples.

collecting tracks and checking if some nicks are involved more often than others would give a clue

with no such data u cant really say if it was just a warp/lag or "him again.."

[OT] What happened to I153 roll rate ? Now it rolls like Spit and Zeke is rolling much faster.

    IMO:

    1. He realises he has overshot and kills the throttle, losing speed rapidly til he enters a stall. With the I16's turn, he can do a practical 180 vertical turn and come right back down on top of you. This is becoming a more and more used tactic (not the overshooting thing, but this method of doing hammerheads til the plane is at a complete stall).

    2. Definitely cheating, or an extremely lucky warper. But warps, whether intentional or not, played a big part in this.

    3. Happens to me often, and I think this is a typical example of lag. I dont think this is any kind of cheat or anything like that, the server was just slow in sending info to you that you had been hit.

All IMO as I said :)

I'm afraid the looping I16 did not stall onto my 6...that would be a skillful move by the other guy that I would only <S>. It literally stopped dead in the air, (from a huge closing speed), in a breath, then lowered to directly behind me (a vertical move) and shot....while upside down. Only a UFO could do this! I've watched it over and again...it's amazing!!!

So, you have track? If yes, I would like to see it

Yes I have the tracks, but sorry geobrt, I won't be posting them here.

I started this thread to understand what is happening in each of those situations, not start pointing fingers. I respect the squad both pilots (1+2) fly for, I have also had no reason to complain about either pilot before. I would prefer to first understand the situation and then approach the poeple concerned, it really would not be fair to do anything else.

IMO, it's probably just lag. The ping times of late have been all over the shop. So much so that I haven't been even going into the arena.

A couple of nights ago, I had a good average ping, <450ms, but there was one ping of 15400ms. Yes you read right....15.4 seconds ping. And this is not uncommon in recent weeks, although usually not so high.

    regards, Oz

I don`t want to point fingers at anyone as well. I`ve just wanted to see that manouver, to check how close it is to what my imagination created, after reading your post.
But, if you don`t want to post track here then ok. Maybe I will see that in MA one day:) ( if my my usuall conection will be restored finally)

So lag in No3 above would be as simple as - my opponent had a better connection?

1 & 2 are examples of warps - deliberate or not.

I fly with a usual 80-85ms (I log off at 180ms I can't hit shit!) ping and a framerate of 98, this can drop to the late 80's in a huge furball. With those figures I feel that my end is probably ok, or could this add to the problems above?

Your end is fine Bish, as long as the pings arent fluctuating wildly.

Btw in your first post you mentioned a 'warp-roll'. This is basically just someone who knows they have a bad ping, or fly a porked plane like the I153, and do constant barrel rolls to evade an attack, knowing those rolls and the warp will cause his plane to be almost unhittable.

Dunno if you had picked up on that yet, just thought I would add it.

the hurri sounds like ither a spit s if downward or a "jink"(not sure proper term.) if upward.
were u a slower plane cut trotel and pull a hard vert turn faster con cant possible follow
roll invert full trotel wep and drop in the 6 of con that ither turned or cut trotel tring to hit u not realising u were in efect aribreaking. but also sounds like lagg was invovled in those munvers sugestion one of u had a slow conect

This happens to me a lot...Another one i get a lot is a plane flying at a diffrent angle to me ie:70 degs away from me and still shoot me down...I ask you how can you defend if on your front end he was never in a position to fire at you let alone hit you ie: front of the plane pointing away from your plane...I get this at least once a week...The other thing i would like to know is how you guys get these ping times? I have an adsl conection at 512/128 and the best i have ever had was a 390ms.

    WARPER!
The best I got ever was a 54ms... taking the speed of light into account it's more than enough to reach Queensland and Sydney from where I live (exact antipodes of these spots).
One more who mixes bandwidth with a ping.
You would probably get a faster connection through some modem-ISP... You just don't care or don't know.

OK frog he's way off having a 54ms connection! But it did sound like kangaa is interested in improving it, if he knew how. Any helpful suggestions anyone?

I don't fully understand the in's & out's of having a good connection to FH, I have ADSL, when I fly that's all I do and I eventually learned to max my framerate. That's my limit kang, sorry bro, I can't help much....hope someone else can.

But that said, a crap connection does not necessarily mean warping in the MA (I think). I was stunned to find a guy I have been flying with since I started here, flys with a 250-300ms ping. I have hardly ever see him warp (never in a fight) and I have never seen someone complain that he warps in a fight.

So, about people that warp at the most opportune times in a fight (if they repeat the process)...isn't it fair to assume they are at best spoiling gameplay at worst down right cheating?

When it comes to suggestions I've already mentioned some ways... just read my previous post :)
ADSL is just a description af broadband ISP method through telephonic line.
Bandwidth (usually 512 or 1024 Kbit download and 128Kbit upload in ADSL lines) has little to do with pings you get to the FH.
The most important thing is, who is your Internet Service Provider and how its network is connected to main International Internet lines.
Every single server your computer has to pass in order to get connected to FH generates some lag. The more servers on the way- the more likely you are, to end up with a high ping. Use traceroute or just the Windows-provided ping application

These are my example results of traceroute for the .21 Server (sorry, that I've deleted 3 first IP values, but I do like my connection and there are some who don't like me here :D )
    Code:

      1	16 ms	15 ms	16 ms
      2	16 ms	16 ms	15 ms
      3	31 ms	31 ms	32 ms
      4	32 ms	31 ms	31 ms z.lub_ru1.do.lub-r1.tpnet.pl [213.25.5.225]
      5	32 ms	31 ms	31 ms z.lub-r1.do.war-r3.tpnet.pl [194.204.175.153]
      6	31 ms	31 ms	47 ms do-war-tr4.tptransit.pl [195.149.232.141]
      7	31 ms	32 ms	31 ms war-b1-pos3-0.telia.net [213.248.79.17]
      8	47 ms	47 ms	46 ms hbg-bb2-pos3-2-0.telia.net [213.248.65.33]
      9	47 ms	63 ms	62 ms s-bb2-pos7-3-0.telia.net [213.248.64.37]
     10	79 ms	93 ms	94 ms mow-b2-pos6-0.telia.net [213.248.101.14]
     11	78 ms	79 ms	78 ms caravan-internet-103718-mow-b2.c.telia.net [213.248.66.22]
     12	78 ms	94 ms	78 ms ntp.caravan.ru [217.23.130.21]

12 steps (servers otw), minimum 78ms, maximum 94ms, average 78ms- quite nice for a saturday afternoon :)
The situation changes if I choose the second IP

    Code:

      1	15 ms	16 ms	31 ms
      2	15 ms	16 ms	16 ms
      3	31 ms	31 ms	47 ms
      4	31 ms	63 ms	47 ms z.lub_ru1.do.lub-r1.tpnet.pl [213.25.5.225]
      5	31 ms	31 ms	47 ms z.lub-r1.do.war-r3.tpnet.pl [194.204.175.153]
      6	32 ms	31 ms	47 ms do-war-tr4.tptransit.pl [195.149.232.141]
      7	31 ms	31 ms	32 ms war-b1-pos3-0.telia.net [213.248.79.17]
      8	47 ms	47 ms	62 ms hbg-bb1-pos1-0-0.telia.net [213.248.65.57]
      9	63 ms	78 ms	78 ms s-bb1-pos5-0-0.telia.net [213.248.64.29]
     10	62 ms	63 ms	78 ms s-b4-pos12-0.telia.net [213.248.66.6]
     11	63 ms	62 ms	78 ms gnii-104970-s-b4.c.telia.net [213.248.99.166]
     12	78 ms	94 ms 109 ms msk-gw.RUN.Net [193.232.80.209]
     13	94 ms 125 ms 125 ms RBnet.msk.RUN.Net [193.232.80.46]
     14	78 ms	94 ms	93 ms MSK-M9-RBNet-3.RBNet.ru [195.209.14.155]
     15	78 ms	94 ms	94 ms PRAN-1-VL16.rasnet.ru [83.149.193.94]
     16 109 ms	94 ms	94 ms ns.chph.ras.ru [83.149.244.194]
     17	94 ms	93 ms	94 ms cndr.chph.ras.ru [83.149.244.5]

As You can clearly see, my pings got stuck somwhere in Moscow (steps 12 to 15) not only producing some unneccesary traffic in the Internet, but also making my route to FH 5 "steps" longer, resulting in an average 16ms worse than the previous one.
By finding a ISP which can reduce the number of the first "steps" and using a proxy, like the 217.23.130.21 you can improve your connect to FH dramatically. The more steps you find in traceroute, the more is to be done to improve your connect. Also try to find additional "weakpoints" like the "Moscow-ring" I've encountered in the second case, and try to eliminate them, by using HTTP Proxies.

Thanks for the info frog, I had no idea about all that stuff!!

I'll be sure to search for related threads...cheers
