    When I was little and started to read, and learn, I wondered if there were people walking around on the hot ball, people so different than us that we could not see them, could not imagine them, could not handle them. I wondered if those people were gods or 'God'
    That really shook me up. Still does.
    We cannot gaze into Sol's eye.
    And, just like man's holiest books tell us, we cannot look at Him [know him, fathom Him, relate to Him. Or Them, we are hardly specks, more like we are quarks, or something]. Some cameras in an orbitor look, but they do not see, we have to see, and we don't still]
    Einstein was pretty cool admitting he/we knew NOTHING that were are like bugs, or germs, that the cosmos was too big to relate to:
    helps put us in our place.
    We are a mote in God's eye.
    Jacobe, what do you think of this film, pretty familiar look to it, eh? Looks a lot like a planet covered in liquid and turmoil and orbited by it's moon.
    Anything that thinks, that lives there, on that glob, would surely see the globe were on on and wonder how anything could live here.

    We can't look at him, but his son looked at me and I looked back.As you say we are a mote in God's eye, you are at the same time the highest known being with consciousness. That filmclip is a another USA fake :) (just pouring gas into your paranoic flames in yer lil' head ;) )

    Nice music in it thought...

    One question which I hope you answer :

    If sun we're a hollow ball, how many earths would fit in to it?

    V = 4/3 πr3

    radius of the sun: 695,500 kilometers

    radius of the earth : 6,378.1 kilometers

    π (pi) = 3.14159265

    no, I am too lazy to do the math, sorry.

    And anyway, you are tryuing to caluculate volume [or what?]. What is the density of Sol? How many Mayas fit in it? Where is the beef?
    Good question Jacobe...!

    1.1×1018 km3 / 1.1×1012 km3 =
    1,000,000
    is too convenient..............

    God likes round numbers, I guess [I don't know, I haven't talked to Him about that. Maybe next time I go for a visit, I will ask.....:eek:].

    Someone know what is mass of Sol / mass of Terra? Better even yet, density....
    Now that would be cool to know. I am lazy and don't want to. And I got a hangover right now and am addled. And my brain stroke effected my ability to tolerate mathematical formulae type parentheses type things or what they are called. I have a hell of a time doing non-linear calculations these days.
    Like Those quadratic type things....
    Arithmetic is my preferred method of reckoning now.

    [What the fuck is wrong with the in-line spell checker?
    First, it speaks Yankee, which isn't English...
    And second, it is wrong a lot of the time anyway]

    So that's where the Mayans went.

    <mad_scientist>
    How many of you Mayans want to meet your God? (Wow, that was easier than I thought... I should have stunning success at figuring out how many Mayans will fit into the sun.) Ok, I'll send you first. (One...) [POOF] (Can't see if he hit or not) Who's next? (Two...) [POOF] (Still not sure...) Who wants to be the 1,000,000th Mayan to meet their God? (After many trials...) [POOF] (I have come to realize Mayans combust when they come into contact with the sun. Therefore, we will never know how many licks it will take to get to the center of a tootsie roll pop. That's not right. I think I was doing something with Mayans and how many will fit in a Volkswagen Beetle. How do I make this place attractive to those Nazi folks in Germany?)

    That's cool! Today a scientist I was talking to asked a casual question about how much computer memory (on disk) was needed to record all genetic sequences data of a common mouse. 'Cause we were doing some data transfers and stuff.

    What seemed like a lot of data a few years ago is nothing today :)

    My first Mac had 512K, and now I have access to a system that has 1TB of RAM. It's all about money.

    What will happen? We don't know :)

    We have some cool methods now to look deep into small things, but we will never be able to get a peek past the edge of the Big Bang.

    My Q about Horton escaped you?
