Yes, some piss poor sniper shot at the woman. I have no idea why people would start shooting at what appears to clearly be a civilian news crew unless they had some powers that be assume that they were some sort of covert scout patrol. Even that seems a bit far fetched. Why would a sniper risk exposing their position for a kill that has questionable value to the enemy? Someone didn't quite think things through before they pulled the trigger. Must be the new guy.

#1 she was holding a granade in her hand (dunno why she was talking to it)
#2 infront of her stood a guy with a rocket launcher (dunno why he was aiming the thing at her face, maybe some kind of diversion)

clearly a possible threat to the Ossetians!

lol, only now you start to believe that?

my bet is that guy just saw the opportunity for personal revenge to all the crap he had to listen to about his people over the last 15 years.

i am wondering however, why nobody seems to be afraid of more shots? if it is a sniper they dont even know from which side it is coming but yet they just stay around their car???

    ---

opening the Telegraph.co.uk newspaper is like reading about another war! it's all about Condi Rize talking here and there, USA deciding issues, "under intense US pressure" russians finally pulling out of Gori, etc. etc.
thats what i call skilful propaganda!
both georgians and russians suck so much at that.

ps: another example of fine psychological propaganda - in Time magazine
the reporter enters S Ossetia from north: in the entire article he describes the scary russian army entering Ossetia, mixed with depictions of the burned villages, destroyed houses and dead people. Not a single mention that the destruction was done by the georgians in the previous days. Not a single mention about georgian army at all. One gets the impression the russians are the occupiers who burnt everything there. :kruto:

A Polish journalist crossing the jungles of Central Africa at night in a column of automobiles:
"We were all sweating, driving at a dangerous speed for the dirt road in the dark. But we couldnt get to a secure village on time, Uganda was plagued by road ambushes at night. In the American movies the good heroes often take cover behind their cars when shot at. That night there was one thought in our heads - that a Kalashnikov bullet can cross the whole column of Landrovers as a knife through butter."

but then, the Ossetians are a rough kin, and the Lada is a tough car:

still the US made a counter move quickly - they signed the rocket shield with Poland, plus placing there Patriot missiles.

next is russians aiming nukes back to the west, and stationing a few battalions on the western border.

We dont know who shot, maybe was a south ossetian. I ve read in other places that the russian troops are upset staying there, they dont know why they are there, even there are rumors that most of them are rookies with a few veterans of Chechenya.

The media from all sides couldn't be more full of shit than usual, yet I cannot help but laugh each time they try to compare it to Kosovo.

SO would be akin to Kosovo if the Serbs decided to re-invade. They would get stomped on, (worse than Georgia,) and be made to pay hefty financial reparations.

Ru is going about this all wrong, that is where they are getting their "old" evil empire image from, as the current goings-on is more reminiscent of annexation of Czech, Poland, etc, vs Beating up the neighborhood bully to save the little guy.

There is still hope for Ru to pull a decent PR image out of the mess they are creating, but they have to act quickly and smartly.

A quick and small list of things they should be doing (now) and are not is:

Get the UN to back it by making passionate pleas for international assistance to help the poor SO, and Georgians who have been displaced by this mess.

Get a UN mandate (similar to UNSCR 1244) to cover their asses should they need to thump Georgia properly.
If they can get a list of resolutions against Georgia acting aggressively towards it's neighbors, and should Georgia repeatedly violate them, then Russia can march in a take the place over and be totally legal through international law. :deal:

Openly invite the International Red Cross in to help those in both SO and Georgia -- include everyone, leave no one out. You have to gain the PR high-ground quickly.

Openly support the US humanitarian flights into Georgia to help the innocent civilians there who have been caught up in this mess, and offer assistance! :znaika:

The thing is though. The people reading those newspapers are already brainwashed, and won't know the difference between what's maybe a hidden truth and propaganda. They can't seperate the wheat from the chaff. So the neutrality of a source is lost for them, because they won't accept any news, but from the sources whoses stories correlate what their usual newspaper/source says.

Unless someone is very skeptical, they'll take the information given to them through the usual channels at face value.

But, it's gone so far this time, that there's no real neutral source out there, there's always two versions of one truth, and I don't know which one best describes it now.
