err, i m confused here!? the meaning of holyness is defined by religion. how could you be holy without being related to it?

Oh, thats shit! Everyone should be able to touch to the contemplation of a monastery, spend a night there. It is a totally different world! you dont need to speak to a monk - my best religious experiece has been just gently stroking a monastic cat at sunset after the noisy tourists are gone...

yes, you cant know but you can feel a person in 1 evening. and thats important.

did I mention that IMHO the catholics totally missed the point about 1500 years ago? so living in Spain, I could understand why you are bitter about christianity, but it is not really christianity. they just went too worldly and left out all the mysticism and from there come all their problems since - including the pope "trying" to be the No1 guy (viceroy of St Peter?), striving for political power over Europe, inquisition, charity work, etc etc, even your "too" rational perception of the world.

    --------

reuben, in fact almost all atheists would also give you a fish-look to certain questions. It is amazing how many people, atheist or religious, never thought in depth about what they believe in.

such as statements like "religion is for the dumb and poor"...
every single human being is Faithful, there is no escape from that.

I spoke about goodness, not holiness :) No holy person and few good persons i've found in 25 years
Maybe i'm prejudiced against monks and "churchic" (?) people, but i feel uncomfortable being near someone who supports religion wars, who say condoms are bad, who take millions of euros every year from our taxes while people starves all over the world, who ask to be kissed in an expensive ring in a fat finger as a "respect sign" (respect isn't shown like that, but servility, and they claim we're all the same...), and so on...
You mean faith in a "god" or cosmic energy or whatever you may call it? If it's that what you mean, then i assure you you're wrong. I don't trust in anything, i'm sure when i'll die i'll simply dissapear (i hope i'll live in the memories of my family and friends), and i know my fate is only determined by how i act day after day.
Sometimes i'd like to have faith in a helping God, but the only idea of becoming a servant to that God scares me to death. And religious people are no more than that, servants to a (imho) inexistant "being" that gives them the hope and support their weak souls need (maybe too extreme, but that's how i feel)

    Religion:

Present day Religious leader in the middle east:

"You must go and kill the infidel as he is Satan and must be destroyed"

European Religious leader 500 years ago:

"You must go and kill the infidel as he is Satan and must be destroyed"

    Spot the similarity.........

well, those guys will burn in hell.
most probably they are just morons who abuse the established social status of the church. they dont believe in god.

    no -- that is faith.

As you say it yourself - being truly religious is not for the weak at all. Although "servant to God" is just a cunning use of speech to stigmatize the challenge a religious person faces. And it is the constant life-long battle against the desease called "sin".

Faith is to believe in God. What i have is trust in that there is nothing more.
I didn't say that. I said religion is for weak persons, because they need to believe they're here and act like that because "God" tells them to. If i'm mistaken, i know it's MY fault. If i make good things, i know it's MY virtue. I'm not guided by nothing nor noone, and it's me the only responsible of my acts.
And about sins... there's so many things that might be considered as sins... For you canibalism is a sin, but in ancient tribes was a tribute to gods, so a sign of Holyness. who says what is good or bad? Your church? Not for me. I know what's wrong and what's right trusting in my own values scale, and nobody will tell me: "that's sin because Bible/Coran/whatever tells so".
F.e: Do you have a GF? Have you ever had sex before marriage or with protection? Then you're a sinner. Is that logical? To Christians it is, dunno about orthodox or protestants, but anyway, they'll have their own stupid rules.
