    "Upward firing" cannon and such

In another thread we lightly touched the subjet of upward firing armament on f.e the Komet.

    See http://www.xs4all.nl/~robdebie/me163/weapons01.htm

For details on that. I also said that I recalled 110 to have similar systems, but according to texts I found that ME262, ME 163 Komet and FW190 had these systems, in different amounts.

Did fighter pilots actually use the lewis gun mounted on the SE5a, while not afixed to the track, as a swivelled gun?
I know it swivelled, yes, at least it did vertically.
And too, did the lewis gun swivel horizontally?
    Imagine the difficulties....

tigrao and israel has some similar (to SG500 Jägerfaust) devices at FH also... AND, better than that, those devices could (when landed) shot sideways too... :znaika:

That, my friend, would be called "a cheat" in the game, and far from the SG500 which is portayed in the above link provided by me FOC.

    "Schräge Musik"-installations were fitted on Bf110, Me262, FW190, Ju88 and ME210/410 airframes. Most were based on the MG151/20, MG-FF(M) and MK-108 guns.

    nice to see ya sebbster!

But the ones in the link I posted aint "schräge", as far as I can tell.
(me being me) These look to be bigger "bullets (50mm)" than the schräge, no?

I might (as usual ) be mistaken though :p

Ah! You're right!!!!! Let me get my bible..... "Flying Guns of WWII" says:

The SG-117 consisted of 7 30 mm MK108 barrels and was never operationally used
The same goes for the slightly lighter SG116 (also 30 mm) and, of course, the SG-500 50mm RL weapon. There also was a 20mm version called "harfe" or Harp, which fired a saboted, fin stabilised projectile at only 320 m/s.

Even more strangely, the germans also designed a downward-firing example! The SG-113 fired a 7,5 cm saboted round downwards at tanks and such.

Re: "Upward firing" cannon and such

Would have a hyperparabolic bullet stream. Hard as hell to aim. At d3 or so. D .5 maybe good...........
Schrage Musik was used against night time bombers, right? Lancasters and Halifaxes with horrible effect.
    Now:
    Against Day Bombers?
    Really?
    I can imagine the slaughter.
RS Johnson, in the book, "Thunderbolt" called 110s "Meat On The Table."
If no escorts about, still, the tactical reasons for use of Schrage Musik was all about NIGHT raids.
Might be fun to have Schrage Musik in this game.

    And finned, dicarding Sabot, rounds?
    Trajectory wierdness:
A sine of things to come?
    Sine of the times?
    Sine qua non?
Oh, I went off on a tangent there, sorry.......
Jeez, finned, dicarding Sabot, rounds: That would sure make it easier to aim the things [sarcasm], a nice little set of fins on the back of the round, jeez, make the hyperparabolic bullet stream even wierder, seeing as it wouldn't behave like a normal parabolic bullet stream, it would behave like, well, what? :rtfm:
Broz: Do the calculus, I am still puzzling over the arc degrees radians helical spiral centrifugal made of green cheese revolving seconds minutes hours thingie. ALmost shot myself several time over that, you bastard.

    I dont remember.
I get the impression that this was the case, but it has been so long that I've found a new book by an SE5 pilot that I've grow a bit out of touch with the topic.
Pitch adjustment available, I think that maybe it probably was.
    Yaw the opposite.
Maybe someone will post a poll & settle this question.

    lol.
    as if a poll

    would settle that question.

sometimes, Roland, you behave better and make me smile a bit. Sadly more often you are just an ass that I don't have the E to reply to. Which is a bad thing, since you can make adequate posts regarding many things. Why do you have to be such an A-hole so often?
Couldnt you be a nice guy here and spill your hate in forum about WW2 railroads? Just a thought ;)

Re: "Upward firing" cannon and such

I doubt he meant 'poll.' I think he meant to type the word 'post.'
I don't believe roland's native tongue is english....

And too, I spill a lot of hate. That is why I often have a smattering of [deleted]s in my posts.

My girlfriend and I were arguing a bit. About nothing much. And then we started to get off the subject, which is a bad thing to do in conflict resolution.
Anyway, she said I rant too much about commies, Jews, the newsmedia, hindus, catholics, muslims and toilet drinkers. That is not all she meant to say, but she ran out of breath and then I said something like, "We were discussing the turd I left in one of your shoes, we were NOT discussing
commies, Jews, the newsmedia, hindus, catholics, muslims and toilet drinkers."
She agreed. Then she said, "Next argument then, okay?" So we both looked in our date books and arranged to argue those things [what is there to argue, she is right and I am wrong, so I am just gonna shut my mouth of hatred for a while. Here too - because she is right]
