    The Ak-site

And the 5,56mm version (AK-101). To me it looks like a shorter gas chamber and smaller barrel diameter...

Just in case you need one...

Hell if I know what that means...

(edited: maybe this will clarify something)

    >>"BTW has anyone seen the new generation of AK the AK 101 model that has blowback and gas operation. The whole barrel recoils back and it kills recoil even on full auto"

isn't he talking about this funny Abakan?

Abakan can shoot 2 rounds only w/o recoil. Mmm... wrong, recoil still exist of course, but 2nd bullet leave barrel before recoil happen.

Abakan is AN-94. Funny piece of plastic, but overly complicated and not suited for untrained soldiers. Good read about the design can be found at http://world.guns.ru/assault/as08-e.htm
world.guns.ru is a good and reliable source altogether, but Romanian 5,56 conversion of AK-47 or AK-74 is not mentioned there, I think :p

Praised by amateur rifle lovers in US, hated by Polish soldiers in Iraq :)

As an ex conscript of the gloriously defunct German army, I say to hell with all this overly complicated, technologically immature and woefully unreliable crap. Let's stick with what we KNOW works. Gunpowder, tanks, airplanes ... pfft, there's no future for these toys in modern warfare! Listen to me, this is where it's at.

At least it's got the long barrel. What was the problem with it in Iraq?

    Re: no hugs!

I know, that's true. I wasn't praising the M16 over AK variants. What I thought was kind of funny was that there even was a need to purchase any AKs, because in Iraq there's never been a shortage of assault rifles ;)

Too many of both types :)

Hehe, my money too! The president just asked for $245 billion more :shuffle:

And BTW, don't you have a pretty sister whom I could hug, instead of you? :D

So they'll move to a wimpier round? I'd still rather have a modernized M14 and a Colt .45. And maybe a Bizon or an MP5 or an Israeli Tavor for spraying :)

Depends on what you are wanting to do versus the round which best fits the role. Remember that ammo has weight, and will you send out (x #) men loaded down with larger rounds for more weight vs have more of a lesser caliber for similar weight.

Whenever a question of 16 vs 47 arises, I always reflect back on the weekend Mr. Stoner, and Mr. Kalashnikov spent with each other. They fired various weapons, and settled the debate of the two models while having a glourious weekend.

The difference is, the 47 is a battle rifle trying to play marksmen rifle, while the 16 is a marksman rifle trying to play battle rifle. The differences in ideology created two very unique approaches; each excellent in its realm.

    ************************

The idea of a floating barrel for recoil has been around a very long time.
Is it practical for a battle rifle? Perhaps for CQB/CQC but for the average grunt, it just provides more parts that can cause a malfunction when they need the weapon the most.

So what? 65 years later and humanity still acting like stupid kids, but with much more powerfull and "smart" weapons that can fail.

Since hardware cant think by itself, its sure programed by a man. And anything made by a man cant be much better than one. :ass:

While no one press the buttom yet, i sugest we just :alc: while there is still clear water on this planet.

Ain't gonna reason with a mad mullah any easier than with a faulty batch file. Fuckers got their commas and colons all mixed up.

Maybe Iranians and North koreans will, soon, wake up and smell the donkey cart they driving. Maybe soon, those idiotic dupes will realize they still USING donkey carts while their bosses build space ships and nukes.
Maybe those people will solve the problem by killing their Mullahs and
