My favorite whisky is this "forty creek port reserve" stuff. It is extremely good. I can't seem to find a bottle in my town. NOT 1 BOTTLE. I am perplexed about this to the point where it seems conspiratorial, you know, like masons are buying it all up so I have to buy something else or whatever.

So I go to this website and I notice that they are still making it, it's available, just not at the liquor store down the street from me. It's available everywhere else in southern ontario though.

    Unbelievable.

I don't use booze. Can I talk about a Malt Liquor?
    Called 'McEwan's Scotch Ale'

It comes in those little bottles, I dunno what you call em, 35ml or so? Anyways, the stuff tastes wonderful poured from a bottle thoaty, sweet'n'sour with a clean clean finish. That fuckin MacCoud guy could probably describe it better, becuase I don't know those words for those things, but I know what I like.Buy a 6 pack and drink all of them.

Finnish National drink that kills some thousands of people a year (but not mostly the one who drinks it, but the guy next to him)

The is allthought a law when drinking this. When you are so fking wasted due pouring it to your lil' brain,so when your are unable to count the barns on the etiquette, you should stop drinking it.

(That's why the picture here is not big, but HUGE)

    How many barns?

yeah Im wondering what it is too jac...looks like some kind of Finnish vodka, but I think I would have heard about it by now if it was...they have a lot of finn vodkas in Canada. It must be some kind of straight grain alcohol stuff like alcool. hez what is that stuff called again, you know the stuff they sell in liquor stores and it is like vodka, but its not..its clear and I think its called alkool or something, people soak a watermelon with this stuff then eat the watermelon, it takes on the flavour of whatever it comes in contact with. too lazy to google

    Watermellons?
    Haha.
I didn't find white lightening a taste treat. I downed a short glass, no, not downed, drank... it is a rare man who can hold his guts after downing a short glass of that stuff........
I drank it so I could get pissed drunk in five minutes....
and then I was completely useless for the rest of the night [about an hour, then I fell off the balcony].

Booze makes beer and wine look like kid stuff. Very hard on ya. Oh, mixed may be 'better.' I don't know.
Have you every gotten a whiff [smelled] a boozer? You can smell the alcohol coming out of their skin, in their perspiration.....
Man that is some nasty poison if it comes out like that. Sort of like lymph...

    Brandy made from barley? whoah...
Brandy is distilled wine..used to be called "brandywine" or brandewijn.
brandy made from barley? so they make an alcohol from barley grain alcohol then distill it or something.

Brandy is spirit distilled from beer or wine.
The beer or wine is run through a still.
    The distill product is
    Booze.
I think there are lots of words meaning same thing....:@drunk:

Yup. "brandy" means from grapes. At least that's what I have been told.

Now go all the way and you get grappa. take that left over grape mash, aka "mark" and add some sugar and ferment it again and run it through a still..

So I guess it is grain alcohol of very high octane. maybe 180~190 proof?

guess they call it brandy as they don't know grapes too much....

You're sitting on a block of ice, reindeer behind you, Russians on your left and Swedes on your right.... making and drinking high test doesn't seem such a bad idea.....

    :D

What jacobe showed was a normal bottle of unflavoured alcohol. I am quite unfamiliar with your proof scale, but it would be like 40% alc/vol.
Unflaovoured as vodka. In a civilized language = Brännvin (shown on the label as well)
    Bränn = burn
    vin = wine.

    M-kay, it's burned wine = pure alcohol.

Make mash, distill it (and added a bit later on as an afterthought) purify it.
Old times purification was made by letting the product from the burner pass through a load of hay/straw. These days activated carbon (coal) is used. Before letting the product pass the coal you need to make sure that the %age is 40 or lower, lest you get worse purification from the coal (the coal gets bad)

No flavour due to the fact that you do not let the bubblyfluid go through the condenser, only the steam from the mash.
If you let fluid follow up in the condenser, it will taste horrible. (the coal can take some of it away)

An old trick to purify (not as old as the hay/straw) if you are to cheap to use carbon is to bottle it and let it sit a while, the bad stuff would then rise to the top and you can shake it off. The bad stuff is oily , in swedish called "finkelolja". Quite horribly bad for your health, too :)

If you make a good batch and purify it good enough, you get better quality than most purchaseable vodkas. (I heard ;) )

...and LL, it's been quite a while since we were mean to the Finn's..
    :D

    <edit:
Oh, yeah. You can get higher %age brännvin, common is to first make a batch at 40%, then redistill that batch thru a still not used for "dirty" mash.
    /edit>
