If they were asylum seekers, they should have sought asylum in the first country that was not waging war.
If they were tourists with Belarusian tourist visas it was Belarusian responsibility to make sure that they use their visas as required (e.g. not giving them lift to the border, but making sure they make they make their best from visiting such a fine, potato-growing country, and get back once their visas expire).

The king was a boy with no authority. After the removal of power of marechal Antonescu, the only real power belonged to the soviets and their Romanian communist agents, trained and organised in the CCCP.
In 1948 there were elections that the communists "won" - every dictatorship masquerading as a democracy needs them. See your country's history and present to get the idea.
As for the retreat of the soviet army in '58 - wtf does it mean to you? Do you think the infuence of russia on Romania ended there? By that time Romania had its own communist dictatorial regime of the most stalinist material - the repression was terrible and the torture and massive imprisoning of potential dissenters lasted long after the death of Stalin.

 

They now have similar "elections" in ruSSia and in the Potato Paradise.
Rigging elections is so much "in Russian blood" that they still did it in 2018 (just check the difference of in-booth, and e-votes cast), when they no longer needed it.
Democracy isn't.
Putin has not attended a single presidential debate during the 2018 elections.
