No they did not. You are refering to the TransAm GT under two litre class or GT2 back then.
Datsun was in the under 2.0 TA
Porsche raced in the IMSA series
TransAm and CanAm were series sanctioned by the SCCA.

I am speaking about the original TransAm series.

And I'm not arguing with you either, in fact as far as can tell, we are in complete if not near complete agreement.

Let's take the football metaphore again. If I go into an online game and I choose the 80's/90's 49ers, I'm going to expect a simulation of a Joe Montana QB. So I'm going to use my Montana spec. QB within the parameters of what Joe really was capable of doing.
So I play the game and Joe is not acting like all the specs that I read about. Well, I say OK. Maybe if the 49ers played the 70's Raiders and used that certain play against the Joe Walsh offense it could have played out that way. All depends on the calls I make and the plays I tell my QB to make...

But then when I find out that the guys who make the sim. decided they did not allow the Joe Montana sim to play like the real Joe, because of whatever reason..... then DON'T call it a Jo Montana, change the QB's number, change the name of the team.

I wonder what would happen if all those flight models were property or the original factories...ha ha ha... that would be funny.
Imagine North American, FocKwolf, Messerschmit, Supermarine, Lockheed suing FH for non conforming flight models, defamation, name brand infringement...what a mess....

Any case, top speeds, rate of climb, ammo loadouts and turning rates of all these planes are no real secret. There are numerous sources and most are very reliable.
Just set the specs. to the history books and see what the results are before "tweeking" for "better playing"...whatever that means.

and yes, there should be a grudge match arena where two or more can play using all the same plane.

Oh well...... it's still a free game. Thanks guys!
