Yes, we need more Yak fighters.

Instead of taking P-38L, couldn't you get rid of a P-39 or something?

Makes you wonder why the original programmers ever came up with this completely brain-dead plane slot restriction.

    what's the difference between p-38l-5-lo and p-38j-25-lo?
speeds and airframes are almost the same, with j-25-lo slightly better.
    weapon is the same.

    even lesser had 12 r4/hl...
but attacking abilities of golds are permanent subject of luftwhinning.
    göring is jerk, yeah.
    gird (jet-propulsion research group, leningrad+moscow, ussr) and gdl (gasodynamics laboratory, leningrad, ussr) rulz... with rs-82, rs-132, brs-82, brs-132, rofs-132, m-13, m-13uk.
even yankies managed to invent m 8 "bazooka" on m 10 rack and hvar "holy moses". not counting tommies with 3in AP-RP and 5" HE-RP.
only göring sucks all the war, proposing gr.21 in summer 1943 and r4m "orkan" and r4/hl in late war.
what can we do but give 8xSC 50 for Fw 190?

    it's not rumors. it's fas's reflection about ki-27.
i proposed to remove both i-153 and ki-27,
fas proposed to remove ki-27 only, leaving i-153.
    so we postponed the question.

    we have j-15-lo, actually.

i'm aware of dive flaps of j-25-lo and thus l-5-lo.

so the question still is "what is preferrable: j-25-lo or l-5-lo"?

if j-25-lo dated in rps as j-15-lo is better than l-5-lo, l-5-lo becomes useless surplus over j-25-lo.

Well, that's antred's family you're talking about executing, so I'll let him make the choice of who gets the gallows. :shuffle:

    negative. plane slots are exhausted.

each plane slot have up to 16 weapon slots (look at b-25h-5-na).

Nice of you to say that, but I don't think I have any right to 'decide' anything whatsoever regarding this game. :)

That said, I'm not at all convinced that deleting any one of the 3 Lightning versions in the game is a good idea.

First of, if we delete the P-38L, which model will the remaining P38J inherit its flight characteristics from? The P-38J and P-38L, as currently represented in the game, are substantially different aircraft, with completely different handling characteristics. The P-38L reacts much more rapidly to roll axis input, probably because it's meant to be the version that adds power assisted ailerons. It also adds the dive recovery flaps and handles different in a tight turn than the P-38J does (the P-38L is the model that needs to go faster than 220 / 230 mph to remain in level flight, whereas the P-38J can fly level at 200 mph or so). This is a purely subjective opinion ... I've never run any tests to confirm my suspicion, but to me it feels like the P-38J has an ever so slightly better rate of climb, acceleration and turn performance than the L ... which is not unreasonable, since it is a bit lighter than the L. Later L models did have a somewhat more powerful engine and were eventually cleared for 3,000 rpm at 70'' hg, giving them another 200 extra hp, but this isn't modeled in the game anyway.

Also, will the remaining P-38J have bazooka rockets or HVARs? Important difference, me thinks. If you only keep the P-38J (as currently modeled), you're screwing over the P-38 pilots in the game, as they're stuck with a less capable plane when they really should be getting the more capable L variant late in the game. If you only keep the L variant (as currently modeled), you're screwing over golds as they'll be facing a more capable P-38 version when they should really be facing the less capable J model earlier in the game.
